If you need help planning your ‘Have a Go’ contact us. We want visitors to be inspired and amazed by the range of skills that help shape our everyday lives, opening their eyes to the wealth of career possibility available to them. Remember, sitting behind a table with some leaflets is not permitted! If you need help, please contact us and we can help you make your stand interactive. When planning your ‘Have a Go’ consider the following: Does it have ‘wow’ factor? How will your business / organisation benefit from delivering a Have a Go? How long will the activity take, and how many visitors will the activity accommodate at any one time? The event will attract over 3500 young people, from 14-25 years, with the majority being 14-18 years. Can the activity be managed logistically, what resources will be required? Does it comply with health and safety regulations? Don’t be afraid to ‘think big’. We have a large undercover space to fill with opportunities to bring in vehicles and equipment – talk to us about your ideas at an early stage. Have a Go – a few ideas to get you started…. Hair and Beauty: Hair braiding/extensions, hand massage, nail and body art, theatrical make up, manicures and painted tattoos. Halloween media make up…. Sports Science: A bike/rowing machine time challenge. Heart rate monitors and fitness tests with balancing balls, dance mats and other sports equipment, rig a dinghy, sailing simulator. Agriculture, Equine, Farming / Countryside: Guess the animal/parasite – put models in a ‘closed box’ and ask visitors to guess! Grain moisture testing, put the tack on a horse (model) – has anyone got a milking a cow simulator? Sheep/cow/pig breed competition. Re-build a clutch. Floristry: Make a buttonhole/wristlet, contribute to an exhibition display. Identify plants and match to their common names. What’s your flower – flower meanings? Health and Social Care: Patient simulator, ‘ Have a Go’ at surgery, hand massage, skeleton puzzle, check out the back of your eyeball, Resuscitate and bandage up victims of an accident, have a go at dentistry, make a memory box. Food and Drink: Food groups – saints or sinners, chocolate ‘welding’, scratch n’sniff. Built Environment: ‘Have a Go’ at building an exhibition wall, making clay bricks, put on PPE and negotiate the health and safety signs. ‘ Have a Go’ at carpentry, plumbing, and plastering. Learn how to transform your bedroom with stencil art or rag rolling, wallpaper walls, and wire a plug/circuit. Make a solar powered boat, thermal imaging. Hospitality Leisure and Tourism: Prepare canapés and make ‘mock tails’, making pasta, silver service, duvet cover competition. Criminology and forensics: Set up a crime scene – visitors become detectives. Retail/fashion/visual merchandising: Dress the mannequins and take a digital photo, the best dressed wins a prize. Learn how to seduce people to buy by dressing shop windows and models. Personnel & HR, The job board: 10 job descriptions and 10 job titles that visitors have to match up with one another to make 10 correct job adverts. Get creative: Glitter, glue, beads, ribbons, textiles and anything else needed to design badges, cards or any other item to test your creative flair – give it a theme and display the works of art. A large mural with a theme could cover the stand and every visitor adds something to it. Vehicle technology: Find out how engines work, align wheels, spark plug/brake pad challenge; change a wheel in a pit-stop challenge. IT and Digital Technologies: Computer aided design, build a 3D model, software development: move and manipulate robots, ‘Have a Go’ at web design, explore an engine using fibre-optics. Animation: Lego men become lead actors in a script. Defence and security: Crack the code to co-ordinate a rocket launch, fool facial recognition software. Sound Engineering and music production: Mixing and music videos.
