Job Description: Certification Review Manager
The Certification Review Manager is responsible for ensuring quality customer service through the sound and timely review and evaluation of client files, and that reviewer staff are trained and evaluated according to MOSA personnel policy.
Reports to: Executive Director
Oversees: Certification Specialists, and in conjunction with the Inspection Manager for employees with dual functions (Certification Specialists/Staff Inspectors)
The responsibilities of the Certification Review Manager include:
Overseeing and managing the certification review cycle for MOSA clients
Participating in the hiring and ensuring the training and monitoring of Certification
Specialists
Conducting evaluations of Certification Specialists
Guiding adequate staffing and process to meet seasonal and daily client customer service needs
Ensuring complete documentation of review work
Monitoring the timeliness and quantity of review work, departmentally and by individual
Certification Specialists
Ensuring the prioritization of client files for review, working with other staff as needed to ensure adequate prioritization of file work, and assigning file review to Certification
Specialists as needed.
Communications within the certification program, including but not limited to: o Responding to questions and concerns as related to the review process o Meeting with and ensuring training of certification staff as needed concerning certification review issues, procedures, and seasonal needs o Communicating with the other Certification Managers concerning issues and/or
developments related to certification review work, as needed or as required
Reporting to the Executive Director issues relating to certification review process
Representing MOSA within the organic community as well as at industry events, trade shows, etc., as needed, or as schedule allows
Maintaining a comprehensive understanding of the NOS and National List, as well as
MOSA policy and procedure as outlined in the MOSA Manuals
Gatekeeping communications with others in the organic community, including NOP staff, the NOSB, other ACA's, and clients
Maintaining a familiarity with the following: o Current issues concerning the organic community o Other ACA’s and their role in the organic community o Accreditation requirements, international organic regulations, and other MOSA programs o Duties and responsibilities of Certification Specialists
Participating in the continued development and maintenance of the overall certification program, including: o Serving on the Management Team and fulfilling Certification Management Team responsibilities o Working with the other Certification Managers as needed to ensure departmental cohesion
o Working with the other Certification Managers as needed to ensure surveillance and complaint investigation planning, tracking and reporting. o Attending meetings and trainings concerning areas of responsibility, as needed or as required o Participating in MOSA’s development including assessment of systems, documents, databases, and fee schedule as needed, through departmental and working group meetings. o Ensuring revisions of databases, systems, OSPs and certification related forms, as well as other documents, and creating new forms as needed. o Updating areas of expertise and areas of potential conflict of interest as appropriate, at least on an annual basis o Contributing to the MOSA newsletter, as requested or as needed o Ensuring preparation of comment on NOSB and NOP documents as related to areas of responsibility o Ensuring MOSA representation on working groups and task forces related to areas of responsibility o Implementing any changes to the NOS, MOSA documents and databases, or
MOSA procedures that pertain to areas of responsibility
Overall Skills and Qualifications:
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong computer skills
Managerial experience and training
Farming, processing/handling, inspection experience/training, legal/regulatory, or organic certification experience
Minimum college bachelor’s degree required, related degree a plus but not required
Excellent reading comprehension
Organizational, time management, and administrative skills
Physical Requirements
Sitting and standing for long periods of time
Typing on a computer keyboard and sitting in front of a computer for long periods of time
Walking long distances over uneven terrain
Valid driver’s license
Ability to work around all species of livestock
