Criminal Justice Internships Dispatch Interns The Life Safety Department is seeking Criminal Justice Interns to work as Dispatchers. There are over 400 cameras on the Haven for Hope campus that require monitoring. Interns would work alongside a Haven for Hope Dispatcher to observe feed from these cameras and dispatch Life Safety Officers to handle any situations on campus. They would also contact emergency services when necessary. Interns would shadow a Life Safety Officer before working as a dispatcher to become acquainted with the campus and situations. Morning, evening, and night shifts would be available with flexible hours. Three interns needed. Social Work – Direct Practice Internships Job Coach Interns The Workplace Readiness Program is looking for Direct Practice Social Work Interns to assist Job Coaches. Each Job Coach has 70 clients to serve; interns would assist in case management and data entry. Job Coaches help the clients to re-enter the workforce so they will be able to support themselves. The intern would work with the Job Coach to help clients obtain the requisite education and training to be ready to enter the workforce, help keep track of client progress, and allow the Job Coach more contact time with clients. Two interns needed. Intake Specialist Intern Haven for Hope Intake Department is seeking Social Work, Psychology, and Sociology majors to work as Intake Specialists. The intern would meet with individuals experiencing homelessness as they are being admitted. This internship requires the ability to engage families and individuals to acquire their information, discuss placement options with the client, and provide excellent client service. The intern would also provide timely and accurate documentation of information through HMIS. Two interns needed. Front Desk at TC Transformation Center is seeking interns to work at the front desk. The TC building is very busy and the interns would help direct people to where they need to go. They have roughly 200 people go through in a day, the intern would help get them to appointments and provide them with resources. The intern would spend time with clients in the lobby being a consistent positive presence. Several interns needed. Case Management Intern Case Management is seeking interns to assist in case management for the clients on campus and in the community. The intern would work with a Case manager and Peer Support to perform clinical case management utilizing Evidence Based Modalities. In this position the Intern will perform assessments, process referrals, and perform community case management including home visits. The Intern may also process intakes, work with the housing team, and manage a caseload of individuals striving to find their way home. No more than 8 interns will be accepted for each term. Position is preferable to Social Work Interns Master’s Level. Outreach Specialist Intern Outreach is looking for an intern to assist them in reaching out to people experiencing homelessness in the community. The intern would be establishing relationships with individuals with possible mental health and substance abuse issues. There would be ample client interaction as well as some supply preparations, such as putting together hygiene kits. The internship has flexible hours and does require some physical activity; walking around downtown. Two interns needed. Social Work – Administrative Leadership Internships Administrative Social Work Intern An Intern interested in working in the office of the CEO and Operations (Fiscal, External Relations, Development, Special Projects) department would assist in general office duties to include filing, copying, packet development, meeting coordination, and assisting with requests both interdepartmentally and externally. The intern would be a part of the administrative function, working with department heads and administrative staff. The intern would get to see first-hand how a variety of divisions operate together to meet the agency mission. One intern needed. Front Desk Volunteer Services is seeking an intern to work the front desk; greeting potential volunteers, re-directing people to various services, and people looking for information on Haven for Hope. The internship will involve some administrative work and assisting the volunteer coordinators. The internship involves some direct client contact and providing resources to people who are looking for certain services. The intern would help with special events and possibly managing volunteers. They would also assist in Holiday co-ordination. Two interns needed. Information Resource Provider Intern The Transformation Center is seeking an intern to work set hours as an on-call resource center providing clients with resource referrals. The intern would work in the library and provide clients with information about what resources are available to them, such as food stamps, housing assistance, vision and dental and how they can utilize them. The Intern would answer calls, walkins, and e-mails. In addition the Intern will act as a triage center representative helping members navigate both Haven and Community Systems. Preferable to any Social Service Intern Bachelors or Associate level ok. One intern needed. Grant Assistant Intern The Development department is seeking an intern to assist in grant writing and research. Additional intern duties may include: thanking donors through thoughtful letters; assisting with the coordination of special events; planning donation drives; participating in development strategic planning. Project Management Assistant Strategic Relationships is seeking an intern to commit to help organize and execute the Point in Time count. The PIT count helps the city get an accurate count of the number of people currently living on the street, which can affect grant funding. The intern would assist in the planning prior to the event. This position requires patience with clients who are going through a difficult time in their lives. This intern would help triage the 50-80 people a day who come into Haven for Hope seeking placement. The intern would also distribute resources to individuals and families who come in seeking other resources. The intern would also assist Intake Specialists. This could be a good position for a business student or administration. One intern needed. Administrative Assistant Intern The Spiritual Services Department is looking for an Administrative assistant who could assist in basic office work, technical assistance, and help organize the office structure and reports. The intern would as help with development work and grant writing if possible. Two interns needed. Administrative Assistant Intern IM is seeking an intern with an IT background to work as an administrative assistant. This would include answering phones, helping with policies and procedures, and assisting the administrators. The intern would also help organized the office space. Two interns needed. Administrative Assistant Intern Residential Services could use an intern to help with office work. They process a lot of information and an intern would help with filings, shredding, and scanning documents. They would also help organize the office and assist the administrators in Residential Services. Two interns needed. HR Intern Human Resources is seeking an intern to work on policies and on the employee handbook. The intern would help revise important forms and documents such as applications and official job descriptions and would help keep the employee information up to date. They would assist in event planning, helping the HR employees with various tasks, and recruiting by preparing postings, tracking responses, and setting up interviews. One intern needed. Business Internships Accountant The Accounting Intern will directly assist the Finance Team with a wide range of projects related to expense report auditing, account reconciliation, revenue processing, and grant accounting. This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. In this position, the intern will learn how to take skills she or he may have acquired in school related to his or her particular areas of interest, and apply them in a professional setting. He or she will gain a better understanding of the role that Finance can play in a non-profit setting, and be better prepared to work in the arena of accounting. The BA will help gather requirements and guide stakeholders through a basic project management process. They will also interpret needs by using Data Services to translate requirements into tasks and create project schedule. Communication, Public Relations, and Media Development Internships Communication Media Development Intern Spiritual Services is seeking a media development intern to create professional short videos about the Spiritual Services Department to be shown at local churches and other potential volunteer groups. The intern would also create videos of clients sharing their stories. The intern would film, edit, and produce the videos themselves. The intern would meet with clients one-on-one and would offer spiritual care; this would be similar to pastoral counseling or spiritual direction. Seminary students or those with the trained or in training skillset of presence, listening, and prayer would be ideal for this position. Five interns needed. I.T. Internships IT Program Design Intern Spiritual Services is seeking an intern with IT experience to create a program online (Faith Home Finder) which helps clients find churches and spiritual services in San Antonio. Program creation would involve community research and presenting this information in an easy to understand, user-friendly way. This would be an ongoing project, as the information will change. Massage Therapy Internships Healing Touch (massage) Therapists Spiritual Services in seeking interns to provide touch therapy to clients. Many of them have traumatic past associations with human touch and massage therapists could help them to experience human contact in a healthy way. Massage therapists, or those in training to be, would provide healing touch in the open, outside on campus on massage chairs. Not limited, could accommodate dozens of interns. English, Journalism, and Creative Writing Internships Writing Assistant Spiritual Services is seeking an English, Creative Writing, or Journalism major to assist those who reside at Haven in telling their stories. For a client recording their experiences can be therapeutic and healing but many need help with the fundamentals. They could also use positive feedback on what they are writing. The intern would have writing classes, help with formatting, and editing. They would have contact with other writers on campus. One intern needed. Education and Recreation Internships Education and Recreation Assistant Intern Residential Services is seeking a few interns who could be available in the children and teen recreation rooms and help encourage educational activities and games. The intern could help them with homework and studying. The intern would also help them use the computers available in the rooms. They would assist the Enrichment coordinator in utilizing the soccer field and setting up recreational activities the youths could participate in. The rooms are available 7 days a week so interns could choose weekend shifts as well. Three interns needed. Research Internships Data Quality Monitoring and Analysis Intern The HMIS Team is looking for a research minded intern to assist in collecting, cleaning up, and analyzing data on people experiencing homelessness in Bexar County. The intern would have the opportunity to conduct research and analysis to inform planning efforts led by the San Antonio/Bexar County Continuum of Care (CoC) – the South Alamo Regional Alliance for the Homeless (SARAH).
