Trustee Opportunity – Treasurer
Pentabus Theatre Company are seeking to appoint a Treasurer to ensure that we have the requisite skills to oversee the
management of the company’s finances going into 2016/17 and beyond. The ideal candidate will hold an accountancy
qualification or equivalent.
This is a dynamic role within a small, thriving theatre company and will see the post holder working closely with the
management team (comprising the Managing Director and the Artistic Director), a part-time Bookkeeper and the existing
Board. Board members are expected to actively participate in the life of the company between board meetings, advising
the team and acting in an ambassadorial capacity where appropriate. The role is not remunerated but reasonable
expenses will be paid. Positions are advertised for a period of 3 years and may be renewed.
This role is required to lead the Finance Subcommittee – comprising three other Board members – and report to the rest
of the Pentabus Board at quarterly meetings in conjunction with the Managing Director. The Treasurer is expected to
travel to London for Board meetings, and may be required to support the Managing Director from time to time at the
Pentabus base in Bromfield near Ludlow, Shropshire (although this can also be done remotely).
Responsibilities include:
 maintaining an overview of Pentabus’ financial affairs in line with best practice and in accordance with our
governing document and legal requirements
 ensuring that effective and appropriate financial measures, controls and procedures are put in place to mitigate
against risk
 making financial recommendations to the Board and providing financial advice
 overseeing, approving and presenting the management accounts to the Board at quarterly meetings
 working with the management team to plan the annual cycle of financial reporting to the Board and to help set
the agendas for the finance component of Board meetings
 attending the company’s annual away day
 advising the Board on the financial implications of the Pentabus business plan/creative decisions
 providing assurance to the Board that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future
needs, and recommending corrective action where this is not the case
 leading work on the development and implementation of financial policies, including the building of reserves
 assisting the Managing Director by making recommendations to ensure that equipment and assets are adequately
maintained/insured
 where necessary, liaising with Pentabus’ accountants, Baldwin Turner Peachy, and advising the Board on the
appointment or re-appointment of auditors
 presenting the annual accounts at the annual general meeting and drawing attention to important points in a
coherent and easily understandable way
 liaising with the Managing Director to ensure that the charity’s annual accounts are compliant with the current
Charities SORP
 keeping the board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities
