The Mississippi Association of Supervisors Weekly Legislative Update 2015 Regular Legislative Session, Mar. 6, 2015 The 2015 Regular Legislative Session Bond Legislation Week Nine of the 2015 Regular Legislative Session has ended. The deadline for original floor action on appropriations and revenue bills originating in other house is March 17, 2015. House Bill 38: This bill authorizes the issuance of $5,000,000.00 of state general obligation bonds to provide for the Small Municipality and Limited Population Counties fund. (NOTE: This bill is now is Senate Finance) Senate keeps House Version of Court Reporters Pay Raise Alive On March 5, 2015, the Mississippi State Senate voted 45 to 6 to keep House Bill 1049 (court reporters pay raise) alive. This measure was amended with a reverse repealer, which will automatically send this measure to conference. MAS will inform its membership of the conferees, once they are assigned to the bill. (NOTE: Visit the MAS website to see the vote) House Bill 1463: This bill authorizes the issuance of $5,000,000.00 of state general obligation bonds for the purpose of providing funds for the Mississippi Community Heritage Preservation Grant Fund. (NOTE: This bill is now in Senate Finance) HB1463 helps with county courthouse restorations. Save the Date The MAPDD Annual Conference Mississippi House Kills Bill that would put Tuberculosis Patients in County Jails On March 5, 2015 the Mississippi House of Representative voted 70 nays to 39 yeas to kill Senate Bill 2585. This measure could have allowed tuberculosis patients who refused treatment to be jailed in the local county jail. If passed into law, this could have been a potential liability of epic proportions to local county governments.
