NIDOS Social Media and Communications Volunteer Job Description & Person Specification NIDOS is a network of over 100 international development organisations in Scotland. We aim to improve the capacity, influence and effectiveness of the sector in Scotland through providing opportunities for networking, debate, training and promotion of good practice. We're looking for an enthusiastic and committed volunteer to help support our social media and communications. Working in a supportive, small and friendly team, this is a great opportunity for someone who would like to gain experience of the international development sector in Scotland. Practical outcomes: Increase Twitter, Facebook activity and YouTube activity Provide regular reporting on NIDOS’ social media activity Provide social media support during NIDOS events Identify member events, vacancies, and campaigns Identify potential advertising revenue through non-member events, vacancies, and training Identify relevant news and information through Google alerts Expand the NIDOS image bank Time commitment: Minimum of 1-2 days per week for at least 3 months Location: Remotely and at Thorn House, 5 Rose Street, Edinburgh, EH2 2PR Reporting to: Policy and Communications Support Officer Deadline for applications: Monday 21 September, 9am Interviews: Interviews will be held on Tuesday 29 September 1 NIDOS 2015 Job Description Weekly Tasks: Schedule regular Tweets and Facebook posts Monitor NIDOS Facebook and Twitter feeds for relevant content Respond appropriately to any comments and delete any spam/inappropriate posts Like/comment on members’ activity where appropriate Like new members’ Facebook pages and follow members on Twitter Notify the Marketing and Information Officer of relevant events and job vacancies Review Google Alerts and pass relevant items to NIDOS staff Increase social media during NIDOS events Develop NIDOS Social Media: Keep up-to-date with social media developments and news, and advise NIDOS Policy and Communications Support Officer where necessary Assist with the development of images and video for NIDOS communications, including expanding the NIDOS image bank Support the Policy and Communications Officer to develop reporting systems for social media, in line with the NIDOS Business Plan Interpret and analyse reports to increase traffic on social media platforms and website Support the Policy and Communications Support Officer with other tasks as required Person Specification: Skills and Experience Essential: Passion for social media Excellent computer skills, including experience of Facebook and Twitter Good communication skills, including oral and written skills suitable for social media Ability to work in a team as well as on own initiative Some availability during working hours Sympathetic to the aims of NIDOS and committed to maintaining NIDOS’s reputation Commitment to high standards of interaction online, including attention to detail and accuracy 2 NIDOS 2015 Desirable: Experience of working with digital images and video Experience of using Facebook and/or Twitter for a charity Ability to work from home for some of the time Terms and Conditions Summary Line management The volunteer will be managed by the Policy and Communications Support Officer Expenses Expenses will be provided up to a maximum of £40 per month (to include lunch and travel by public transport) with additional expenses provided when necessary for attending NIDOS events. Working from home The volunteer would usually be expected to work one day a week in the NIDOS office. Alternatively the volunteer may work from home with weekly catch-ups in the NIDOS office. Training The volunteer will receive an induction to NIDOS, and ongoing support through weekly meetings, and by phone and email. They will also have access to NIDOS training and networking events where appropriate and will receive regular reviews to gain feedback on their progress.
