February 27, 2015 Dear Freshmen Parents, Malibu High School is an educational institution that is committed to teaching students to become responsible citizens. One of our focuses this year is to encourage students to think about driving, personal safety, and the responsibility of making mature decisions especially when lives are involved. On Thursday March 19th, freshmen students will participate in a special assembly called “Impact Teen Driving” that will be presented by the California Highway Patrol. The program includes a discussion that includes making responsible choices, the effects of drinking and driving, and the rules regarding driving when they become 16. Sophomore, junior, and senior students will observe a simulated “crash” that will be staged in front of the school on Morning View Drive. The “crash” simulation program is titled Every 15 Minutes, referring to the fact that a person is killed in an alcohol-related traffic collision every quarter hour. While your freshmen student will not experience the Every 15 Minutes program until their senior year, the programs that we have selected to have the students participate in will have an effect on the entire student body making better decisions about driving and alcohol. As the Assistant Principal, I feel strongly that as educators we must encourage each student to become a responsible member of society. Our assembly and staged event have serious messages with critical information for all teenagers. If you choose to have your student not particiapate in this program, please sign and return the slip below. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Sincerely, Phil Wenker Assistant Principal Please Note: On March 19st Morning View Dr. will be temporarily blocked in front of the faculty/staff parking lot from 8:15a.m. until approximately 12:30p.m. TEAR OFF AND RETURN My 9th grade student, _________________________________, does not have my permission to attend the “Impact Teen Driving” assembly on March 19st.
