Press release
Durham, NC, December 21, 2015 — On December 22nd, a growing Triangle-based organization
dedicated to helping professional women network and succeed in the technology field will award its
first scholarship.
In her award application, Rose Harris discusses how she returned home after serving 21 years in the
military to be her ailing mother’s caregiver. After working two jobs following her military service,
Harris desired to make a career change to Information Technology to “build upon the skills I’ve
learned in the military and increase my skill knowledge.” Ms. Harris will pursue a career in the rapidly
growing Cybersecurity field while training in the Security and Network Infrastructure Specialist
program at New Horizons Computer Learning Centers of Central and Eastern North Carolina.
“We are so thrilled to partner with New Horizons to honor Rose Harris in her studies and help her
move forward in her career. She is an amazing woman”, said Dawn Barnett, President of Connected
Women of North Carolina.
Ms. Harris began classes on December 14th, and the check presentation will take place Tuesday,
December 22nd at 1:30pm in the lobby of New Horizons Computer Learning Centers of Central and
Eastern North Carolina, 5400 S. Miami Blvd., #140, Durham NC 27703. Representatives from
Connected Women of North Carolina and New Horizons will be on hand. New Horizons Computer
Learning Centers of Central and Eastern North Carolina offers Information Technology training and
