The department is made up of Commercial Services, the Accommodation Office, the Sports and Fitness Centre and the Print room. Commercial Services are responsible for the provision of all catering for staff, students and guests of the University, for conference and function use (both internal and external customers) and for the management of nine halls of residence in the village of Cottingham accommodating over 1400 residents. The halls of residence in Cottingham provide mainly catered accommodation during the semester period for predominantly first year students and for commercial activity in the vacation periods. Commercial Services are responsible for all catering and cleaning services as well as the day to day management of buildings in this area. A student residence since the 1920's, Thwaite Hall is an imposing 18th century country house in over 24 acres of beautiful grounds adjoining the University's Botanic Gardens offering a large lake, parkland and woods. The hall offers 196 single rooms all with wash hand basins. Bathroom facilities are shared and located conveniently at the end of each corridor with a maximum ratio of 1 bathroom to every 4 residents. There are two common rooms, television lounge, music room with a grand piano and a library with oak-beamed ceiling, all suitable to hold meetings and events. The impressive dining hall with minstrel’s gallery lends itself to a variety of uses. Thwaite Hall is an ideal venue for residential conferences, summer schools and can also be used for weddings, family parties and other events including the use of a marquee in the beautiful grounds. Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the post The post holder will be required to work at any Commercial Services unit as necessary, and will maintain a high standard of customer care to meet the need of its customers.
