All About Technology If you love exploring technology and computers, join EVG’s summer school program All About Technology! In this class, we will expand on the students’ prior knowledge by exploring Apple products through fun and educational applications with iMacs and iPads. This course will give students more flexibility to enjoy and discover technology in a different light. So let’s explore together to broaden our technological experience! Grades 3-6 Tuesday/Thursday 9:00-10:30 3.Exploring Writing Through Technology: If you are passionate about writing and technology, this class is for you! In Exploring Writing Through Technology, we will use different forms and applications of technology to make writing come alive. This course will give students more independence to truly explore and discover themselves as individual writers. Writers will be able to explore a whole new world of writing with technology. So let’s get our creative ideas flowing, and let writing take us on an unforgettable adventure! Grades 3-6 Tuesday/Thursday 10:30-12:00 4. Crafting With Beads Crafting with beads is a fun and stylish way to be creative! Bead are not just used to make jewelry but can also embellish clothing and other items. During class we willhave various project options to choose from, some of which may include: jewelry making, picture frames, ornaments and key chains. For students who enjoy arts and crafts and making something unique, this class is for you! Your personal creations willbe sure to BEDAZZLE yourself and friends! The Sculptors Studio Bring your creative ideas to the Sculptor's Studio. Through dimensional artworks you may take simple shapes like circles, squares and triangles turning them into geometric forms of spheres, cubes and cones to create one of a kind 3-D art! Students can choose to make mythical creatures, monsters, beasts, wild and domestic animals or any other imagined critters. Various art projects may include working with paint, clay, wire, paper pulp, paper-mâché and various recyclable objects. Material Fee:$10.00 Grades 3-6 Tuesday/Thursday 9:00-10:30 6. Reading Enrichment: For students who find reading a challenge. Take advantage of the summer to help your child reinforce and improve their reading skills. Using technology, sight words, phonics, vocabulary, and individualized instruction, your child will have the opportunity to get a head start before the new school year. Using iPads to research an important individual from the past, students will create a biography of that individual, then present their findings in a fun, interactive way through a wax museum exhibit! Material Fee:$10.00 Grades 3-4 Monday/Wednesday 10:30-12:00 8. Fairy Tales Around the World Did you ever wonder why fairy tales are told all over the world? Or think about how fairy tales have changed over time? In this class, we will look at fairy takes from all around the globe and see how they vary in different regions and cultures. We will look at traditional and modern versions of fairy tales. You'll even get to write your own version of your favorite fairy tale! Grades 3-4 Monday/Wednesday 9:00-10:30 Grades 5-6 Monday/Wednesday 10:30-12:00 9. Mad Scientist Club! Calling all mad scientists! Enter if you dare! Come have some creepy fun this summer. Join the Mad Scientist Club! As a student of mad science, you will learn about the mysteries of creating erupting volcanoes. You will make gooey homemade slime, crystal rock candy, edible play dough and much more!! Material Fee:$10.00 Grades 3-6 Tuesday/Thursday 9:00-10:30 10 .Summer Sizzling Book Club! This club will allow readers to explore reading in a different way. We will discuss fiction and non-fiction books. Students will be able to read and discuss in an open discussion. Students will be able to grill up new ideas using their books to create activities such as comic strips, designing a new book jacket, developing a website or power point, painting a picture, or writing a play! Grades 3-6 Monday/Wednesday 9:00-10:30 11. Writing Workshop The skills developed through creative writing can help improve literacy abilities, encourage creative thinking and build enthusiasm in writing. This summer, students will write, illustrate, and improve their writing skills in preparation for September. Grades 3-6 Monday/Wednesday 9:00-10:30 12. Multicultural Art If you enjoy art and traveling, please come join Ms. Gutierrez at EVG’s Multicultural Art Class. Open to grades 3-6. Each week students will have fun creating art projects inspired by countries from around the world such as India, Korea, Italy, Mexico, and Dominican Republic!!! Material Fee:$10.00 Grades 3-6 Monday/Wednesday 10:30-12:00 13. Fun to be Fit Grab your sneakers and get ready to move! You have one body, so you need to take care of it. Learn about little things that you can do to make a big difference in your health. We will discuss healthy eating habits, understanding food labels, and even taste some healthy foods. This class wouldn’t be complete without learning about your muscles and doing some exercise. Grades 4-6 Monday/Wednesday 10:30-12:00 14. Let’s Get Creative Clip, snip, cut, glue! You won’t believe the things you can do! This class will show you how to use basic household items to create amazing things. The incredible pieces you create can be used to decorate your room, wear, or even give away as a gift. The possibilities are endless. Grades 3-6 Monday/Wednesday 9:00-10:30 15. .Introduction to Yoga Would you like to strengthen your body and your mind at the same time? Let’s come together on warm summer days to learn poses that challenge our bodies and our brains! Yoga is a wonderful way to strengthen your body, build self esteem, and take a break from the busy world we all live in. In this class we will learn the history of Yoga, build character through acceptance and respect of our peers, play Yoga games, learn stress-relieving breathing techniques and of course practice fun Yoga poses like downward dog, frog, tree, happy baby, warrior and many more! Grades 3-4 Tuesday/Thursday 9:00-10:30 Grades 5-6 Tuesday/Thursday 10:30-12:00 16. Poetry Slam In this creative and enthusiastic exploration of poetry, students will read and write different types of poems. Through reading activities and journaling in our writing notebooks, students will brainstorm, develop, and nurture their own creative ideas to include in their own poems. Students will learn how to use interesting literary elements to make their writing fun and entertaining. Students will ultimately produce their own poem in the format of their choice to perform for their classmates at our spoken word poetry slam. (Grades 4-6) Grades 3-6 Monday/Wednesday 9:00-10:30 17.Greek Mythology Reader’s Theater Come and explore the world of ancient Greek mythology! In this reader’s theater, students will read and analyze different Greek myths to learn about how ancient people understood the world. Through this study, students will meet interesting characters and practice becoming more enthusiastic readers and better public speakers. Students will read, rehearse, ultimately perform reader’s theater scripts that are fun, entertaining, and insightful! (Grades 3-5) Grades 3-5 Monday/Wednesday 10:30-12:00 18. Tall Tale Workshop What are Tall Tales? Let's explore folktales together this summer. Students will learn about the art of telling tales through the exploration of the genre. Summer Drama Club Students participating in summer drama club will be using a variety of games and activities to practice important theater skills. “The Alphabet Game”, “One-Liners”, “Questions”, and many other activities will help us with improvisation skills. Also, we’ll improve our pantomiming abilities with “Magic Clay”, “Rhyming Charades”, and “Park Bench”. Students will be acting in a group play toward the end of the course.
