Itinerary: April 11 – Fly from your home city to Venice, Italy. April 12 – Venice – Welcome to Venice! Transfer to your hotel in Mestre and enjoy a welcome dinner with the group. (D) April 13 – Venice – Transfer to Tronchetto from where you take a boat to Venice. Arrive and discover Venice during a half day guided tour highlighting all the important monuments, from San Marco Square to the Rialto Bridge. You’ll learn the history behind the famous landmarks, including the basilica’s Byzantine heritage and the adjoining prisons of the Doge’s Palace. Highlights also include Campo Santa Maria Formosa and Marco Polo’s House. Along the way you will learn the history of the stunning palaces and churches that line the famous canal, as well as anecdotes about the famous people who have resided on Venice’s most important ‘street’. Back to Mestre where you will overnight. (B) April 14 – Mestre – Florence – After breakfast sit back and drive through beautiful Italy on your way to Florence! Arrive and have free time for lunch. Your afternoon half day tour in Florence includes the cathedral in the old city center, including Giotto’s bell tower, the Baptistery with its bronze doors and the famous cupola by Brunelleschi. A short walk brings you to the Accademia Gallery which houses the statue of David by Michelangelo. Your tour continues with panoramic views of Florence, Fiesole and the Arno Valley. Next, you’ll visit the old city center to see the Franciscan Church of Santa Croce. A short walk through the heart of Florence brings you to the famous Piazza Signoria, where you can see the imposing Palazzo Vecchio and the beautiful Loggia del Lanzi. Transfer to your hotel to overnight. (B) April 15 – Florence –Lucca – Pisa – Transfer to Lucca where you will stop for short free time to admire this extremely beautiful medieval town. Arrive in Pisa and have free time for lunch. After lunch get ready for a half day guided tour in Pisa. You’ll drive along the embankment lining the River Arno into Pisa. Your visit begins with a guided visit of Piazza dei Miracoli, home to the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa. This masterpiece of Romanesque art is surrounded by the equally beautiful baptistery and cathedral. Transfer to you hotel to overnight. (B) April 16 – Pisa- Orvietto – Transfer to Orvietto. Arrive and have half day guided tour. Visit its marvelous Cathedral and walk along the narrow streets of this city that is considered one of the most beautiful in Italy with its medieval architecture. Overnight in Orvietto. (B) April 17 – Orvieto- Assisi – Transfer to Assisi. The visit of this marvelous medieval town will include the Basilica of Santa Maria and the Basilicas of St. Francis and St. Clare. Afternoon at leisure for personal activities. Overnight in Assisi. (B) April 18 – Assisi – Rome -Transfer to Rome. Arrive and explore Rome during your tour. The tour starts from the Baroque fountain Di Trevi, one of the most famous fountains in the world. Throw a coin in it, to be ensured a return to Rome. Next go to the Castel Saint Angelo, used by the popes as a fortress and castle, and now a museum. Have a break in Piazza Navona, one of the world`s most famous squares. Continue to the Pantheon, the temple to all Gods in Ancient Rome. Finally it is off to the Spanish steps, the most majestic urban monuments of Roman Baroque style in Rome. Transfer to hotel. (B) April 19 – Rome – Full day guided tour. Explore the Vatican Museums from inside and the treasures of the Popes. Admire Michelangelo’s famous ceiling inside the Sistine Chapel. Visit St Peter`s Basilica, where Peter – the apostle who is considered the first pope – is said to have been crucified and buried. Visit the heart of Ancient Rome, the Coliseum. Explore this scene of many gladiatorial contests. Admire the spectacular Roman Forum, between the Palatine hill and the Capitoline hill. It was the center of political, commercial and judicial life in ancient Rome. See the Roman empire come back to life at this site. Remains of many buildings from different periods are visible. The forum was littered with temples, basilicas and triumphal arches. Transfer to restaurant for farewell dinner. (B,D) April 20 – Rome – Transfer to airport to take your flight back to USA.
