CHRISTMAS ASSEMBLIES Each class performed a Christmas Assembly which parents and friends came to watch. The teachers and children worked very hard learning lines and songs and it was great practice for them to perform in front of an audience. Special thanks to all the class teachers and assistants. The teachers have each written a few words about this first term. Nursery Nursery 1 and 2 have been learning about the topic “Ourselves” this term. We went to the theatre to see Jingle Bells, the children were all very excited to see Santa on stage. We also went to Caballo de Troya where the children got to make a decoration for their Christmas tree. The children have been practising hard for the assembly and are looking forward to performing their songs for their parents on Wednesday 17th. Mrs Marith & Mrs Majella Reception This term in reception, the children have explored various topics such as “Ourselves”, “Autumn”, “People who help us” and “Celebrations”. They particularly enjoyed talking about what they want to be when they grow up! We would like to thank Sara Martinez´s uncle and Malak & Omar Zeid´s mother for coming in to talk to us about their professions. The children really enjoyed the talk that they gave. Reception has also enjoyed trips to the farm and to the theatre this term. The children loved seeing the musical play “Jingle Bells” where they could sing along with some Christmas songs they know. Miss Laura & Miss Katie Year 1 Year 1 enjoyed a trip to the farm where we looked at different animals and their habitats. We had a picnic and lots of fun. Our Christmas assembly this year was “Twas the night before Christmas”. All the children learnt their lines and sang beautifully. Well done year 1. from Mrs Gill And Mrs Hannah Year 2 This term Year 2 have covered “Katie Morag and the Island Home” in Geography, “Health and Growth” and “Materials” in Science. In history we have studied “The Great Fire of London” that took place in 1666. We visited the farm and this tied in with our science topic and we enjoyed doing the workshops which were practical and relevant to the course. Our Christmas Show was called “Christmas Around the World” and it focused on celebrating Christmas in different parts of the world. The children thoroughly enjoyed learning their parts and singing their songs. Well done to all of Year 2. Mrs Jessica, Mr Marugan and Miss Walters. Year 3 Year 3 have been studying Madrid, with special emphasis on Madrid´s monuments. They did a tour of Madrid where they saw most of the famous sites and had a guided tour of the Royal Palace. We have also studied the Stone Age this term and went to the National History Museum for a workshop. We did our class assemblies on the play “Christmas Decorations” and the children all put in great performances. The main message of the play was to think of others this Christmas time. Mrs Hudson, Mr McLeod and Miss Moroney Year 4 - Mrs O´Donnell & Mr Hooley As part of the Year 4 history syllabus Year 4 have been studying the Romans. Roman Day was certainly a memorable one!! Years 4A & 4B were busy all morning preparing themselves for battle. Shields were made and each child had a gladius ready for the big event. Before battle commenced, both "armies" marched, practised formations and defence strategies. At last the Times Table battle began and there were "victims" on both sides. It was hard to say who was victorious as it seemed that both armies were keen to surrender in order to get to eat some Roman food before play time!! Thanks to all of the children for participating with such great enthusiasm to make the day a success and a big thanks to all of the parents for organising their Roman costumes. Numont and Year 4 would also like to say a big “Thank You” to Dr Fernández. Dr. Fernández (Helena's Dad) came in to give us a very informative class on the digestive system. The children (and teachers) learned a lot and are very grateful to him for coming in to share his knowledge with us. Mrs O'Donnell & Mr. Hooley Year 5B This term has been a busy and exciting one for 5B. We started off the year with a trip to Cañada Real, which was a great success. We had the opportunity to learn about the wildlife that we live so close to and also had lots of fun while we were there. We have worked extremely hard this term, producing wonderful and interesting work as a class. The science projects were particularly outstanding. 5B produced some incredible 3D projects on the solar system which you can see on display in the annex. A special well done to Alvaro Perez, Martín del Valle, Rodrigo Lopez, Ignacio Mora, Faustina Canullo and Jorge Lopez for their science projects. 5B have worked hard not only in but also outside of school. Sophia del Castillo was chosen to play the main part in a short Halloween film produced by Spanish director Ricardo Uhagón Vivas, which you can view by following this link: vimeo.com (Witch Girl). What a fantastic achievement. Congratulations Sophia! What a star! We finished off the term with our Christmas show, on which the whole class worked extremely hard. We also had a lot of fun during practices! Well done to everyone in year 5B for working so hard during this term. Let’s hope next term is even better! Miss Grogan Year 5A performed their Christmas pantomime ‘Snow White’ on Thursday the 11th of December. It was a great success! The children’s singing and acting skills were outstanding and the audience’s participation was greatly appreciated. The children enjoyed preparing the pantomime but nobody expected such a professional performance. There are certainly some future Oscar and Grammy award winners in that class. Well done, Year 5A! Miss Smith Year 6 Year 6 performed their Christmas show Sulky Santa. Everything went so well, no technical difficulties and not too much prompting. All the children acted their parts and the singing was brilliant! We had so much fun! Mrs Kennedy said "Now back to work" and now we are back to our books. We are looking forward to getting together again to perform The Story of Martin Luther King next term. Mrs Kennedy ICT When using ICT in the curriculum we look for imaginative ways to link with other areas of the curriculum, always making sure ICT is not taught in isolation. ICT is changing the lives of everyone. Through teaching ICT we equip children to participate in a rapidly-changing world where work and leisure activities are increasingly transformed by technology. However, we are conscious of the fact that ICT skills must be taught and is very specific in targeting the skills we want the children to concentrate on while working at the computer. We enable them to find, explore, analyse, exchange and present information. We also focus on developing the skills necessary for children to be able to use information in a discriminating and effective way. ICT skills are a major factor in enabling children to be confident, creative and independent learners. The Reception classes have been exploring their artistic abilities and Year 1 classes have developed those skills; Years 2, 3 & 4 have been our little writers practising their typing and brightening up our lessons with their ideas as journalists. The Year 5 classes have concentrated on design and technology and had great ideas for a park (watch out architects!!) while Year 6 worked on a multimedia presentation (watch out Disney!!) The children enjoy ICT immensely and they especially love the new educational games we have acquired this term. We all cannot wait until next term for the exciting new arrivals that we´ve asked Santa for. :) Mrs Cristina Inter School Sports competitions Despite being the smallest school participating in the inter school competitions the results show that Numont is full of sporting talent. Runnymede Cross Country Congratulations to the Numont team! With 60 runners in each race it’s not easy to battle your way to the front! All the children competed with great determination. The best results in the individual competition were: Raphaëlle (Year 5) 5th place Jorge. L (Year 5) 6th place Victor (Year 5) 7th place Jaime .P (Year 4) 12th place Manuel.P (Year 6) 14th place The best Numont result in the team competitions was: Year 5 Boys 2nd place British Council Mixed Tag Rugby Tournament The Numont team played incredibly well to get through to the semi-finals, narrowly missing out on winning medals, finishing 4th in a tournament for years 6/7 with nine schools competing. Congratulations to Elizabeth, Celia, Ana, Folake, Alesia, Gabriel, Pablo, Gonzalo, Arturo, and Manuel. The Music Department This year the Music Department has formed two choirs in Key Stage 2. Children in Years 3 & 4 practise once a week, at the moment they are practising Christmas songs in preparation for the Christmas Assemblies. Years 5 & 6 also practise once a week and in addition perform to the lower classes. They write their own poems and then add compositions to their poems and perform these pieces in front of small groups. This gives them confidence and also encourages creativity. The Key Stage 1 choir meets on a Friday where they learn and practise new songs and then have a “mini show” or assembly. SPRING & SUMMER SHOWS Foundation Stage & Key Stage 1 Reception to Year 2) will be on Thursday 26th March Key Stage 2 (Year 3 to Year 6) will be on Wednesday 17th June The shows will take place at 18.30 in the theatre at the Colegio Menesiano, Avda.
