Teaching Artist Professional Development Course

Are you interested in using your art form to support children’s learning in all subjects?
Arts integration that engages children of all abilities and backgrounds requires creative
collaboration with classroom teachers. Teaching artists and school art teachers from
across Vermont are encouraged to apply for participation in the third annual Arts
Connect professional development program. See below for regional options.
VSA Vermont, in partnership with the Integrated Arts Academy (IAA), the Flynn Center
for the Performing Arts, Burlington City Arts, and the Vermont Arts Council is offering a
three-credit graduate course for teaching artists to learn more about arts integration,
Universal Design for Learning, and classroom collaboration.
The program will take place during the fall semester of the 2015-16 school year. It will
consist of direct instruction in arts-integration and Universal Design for Learning, online
and in person reflection, classroom observation, and collaborative planning sessions. In
addition, there will be an opportunity in January to present to the IAA faculty for
consideration.
Program participants who complete the course will receive 3 graduate level credits
through Saint Michael’s College and a stipend covering tuition costs.
To be considered for participation, applicants must be available to complete 6 hours of
classroom observation between September 24 and December 15, monthly online
reflection, and to meet in-person for the following dates (all are Wednesdays):
September 9, 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. Full-Day Intensive, Flynn Center
September 16, 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. Full-Day Intensive, Burlington City Arts
October 7, 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. Interim Meeting, site TBD
November 4, 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m., Interim Meeting, VYO, Elley Long Music Center
December 9, 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. Final Course Meeting, Flynn Center
January, date TBD, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. After School Presentation to Faculty, IAA
