August 10, 2015 Dear Students and Parents: It is with great excitement and pleasure that I welcome you to the 2015-2016 school-year! This year Baltimore City Public Schools will open for students on Monday, August 31, 2015. School will start promptly at 8 A.M. Enclosed you will find information to assist you in preparing for the upcoming year. Our goal this year is to make sure that we meet the needs of “Every Student in Every Subject Every Day”. As we work towards meeting our goal, we would like to invite every family member to become actively involved in their child’s education. Our staff eagerly anticipates developing a stronger partnership with you to strengthen the bond of establishing a well-rounded community school. Please make every effort to participate in the wonderful academic programs and activities we have planned to assist our children with College and Career Readiness. In order to ensure that we have a safe entry on Monday, August 31th and Tuesday, September 1st, any registration request will take place from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. in the library. Please stop by the main office to receive a visitor’s badge before you report to the library. Thank you for your understanding with this matter. Breakfast Listed below are some very important details: School starts promptly at 8:00 a.m. Breakfast will be eaten in the classroom beginning at 8:00. Students will come into the building and unpack before taking a breakfast from the Kiosk that will be located in each hallway. Breakfast will end promptly at 8:20 A.M. Kiosk will be removed from the hall and breakfast will be discontinued in the classroom at that time as well. There will not be late breakfast provided to students as it cuts into instructional time. Please make sure your child arrives to school in enough time to have breakfast. Breakfast will not be served on the first day of school. Entry Please refer to the front of the envelope for your child’s grade, classroom and section number. All students in grades 1st -5th will report directly to their classroom using the Playground entrance at the 7:55 A.M. bell. Pre-K and Kindergarten students will be greeted by their teacher in the cafeteria. Staff members will be strategically placed to ensure that every student is moving in an orderly manner. Dismissal Pre-K and Kindergarten students need to be picked up in the cafeteria by an older sibling or the adult listed on the emergency card. Individuals picking students up will have to sign the student out. All students will be dismissed from the playground. 1. DISMISSAL PROCEDURES: Dismissal will start promptly at 2:40 P.M. If a student needs to be picked up early, please send a note in advance. We ask that you please limit early pick-ups to emergencies only. Remember to value and protect your child’s instructional time. We would like to thank you in advance for adhering to this procedure. In the case of early school closings, please be mindful that students will be dismissed at 11:30 A.M. Moreover, we are required to make sure that all children have lunch prior to dismissal. For this reason, we are asking that you remain patient and follow BCPSS early dismissal procedures and policies. UNIFORMS BREHMS LANE IS A UNIFORM SCHOOL. To ensure safety of all students and staff, each grade-level will be assigned a specific uniform color to make it easy for staff members to identify our students and for students to identify each other. Students with 100% uniform participation will be allowed to participate in extracurricular activities, trips, and etc. Parents please encourage your child to wear his/her uniform every day. Reminders 1. All visitors must enter the building through the main entrance door. EVERY visitor MUST come directly to the main office to get logged into our new electronic system provided by City Schools. Every visitor must have a valid state identification in order to be allowed entrance onto our campus. For safety purposes, all doors will remain locked to outside entry at all times.
