EASSC Pro Green Winter Series, Round 1. Mepal After a somewhat delayed start, the East Anglia, Pro Green Winter Series finally got off to an auspicious start. With wet and windy weather on Saturday racing got under way in cold but fine sunny conditions. With over two hundred riders travelling from all over the country this was truly a National event in everything but status. The track too had been revamped over the winter and was in very good condition. Stuart Nunn put in a lot of work during the day to keep the track in the best possible state for all the riders. The Autos went out first and it was good to see so many auto riders taking part. Freddie Pitts had a great day taking the top slot from Ashton Boughen with Spike Stevens coming home third although the racing was pretty close throughout. Alfie Jones carried on in his indomitable fashion taking the first place in the Juniors with three straight wins. Charlie Reynolds also had a good day with three seconds and Kiean Boughen taking third with three thirds. Riding in deep sand these results were all the more remarkable. Reece Martin took the best overall in the Small Wheel 85’s although Sam Nunn and Kayden Algar were in close pursuit taking second and third places. Ben Clark and Bobby Bruce were unlucky to be outside the top three in this very close race. The Big Wheel 85’s saw a much fought after competition, with three different riders all taking a first place. Lewis Cloud got it in the first race, with Declan Hunter taking it in the second and Reagan Brooks having the third but in the end Reagan took the overall from Declan and Lewis. In a break with tradition the Seniors went out next and Josh Bentley took the advantage straight away with two firsts and a second. Matt Maxted took the overall second place from Todd Richie. Josh Waterman led the AMX right from the start and took the first place in all races. Ryan Osborn took the second position and Ady Peedle had a good third in what turned out to be a great set of races. In the AMX Open Group Luke Gidney took the honours with Liam Knight coming in second and Steve Bixby taking the third slot in very close fought races. Last out was the VETS with nineteen riders taking part this also made for good sport and Glen Bixby had a great day taking the overall. Chris Hind had the second from Arvydas Bartasuis in third. It was really good to see so many old East Anglia faces turning out to support this event.
