Rocket Sports Information Week 5 Review
Rocket Nation,
This week is a big week for Rocket Nation. The Playoffs are here and we have many
teams competing for a chance to bring home a championship! Rocket Cheer is coming
off an exhilarating State performance, the Lady Rocket Softball team is district champs,
and our Lady Rocket Volleyball team is hosting regionals for the third straight year! Our
Football Team is top in their 3A conference at 1-0 and our Cross Country girls are
ranked #4 in State as they travel with the boys to Bethany.
So let’s do some recaps and let’s keep rolling BIG BLUE!!!
Cheer
After the fantastic performance at regionals in Midwest City coming in third, Rocket
Cheer headed up I-35 to Oklahoma State University for the State competition last
weekend. The girls put on a great show and those of Rocket Nation who were in
attendance will attest to the spirit and talent of our team. The good news for Rocket
Athletics is that even though the competition is over we still get the pleasure and honor
to be with these cheerleaders throughout the rest of the year. Congrats Cheer on a
great competition season and thank you all for all that you do for our teams.
COACH STILES SAYS
Thank you so much to all of you who were able to join us up at State last
Saturday. It really means so much to the girls when they look up and see friendly
smiling faces. Also many thanks to our Parents who helped out so much during
the competition season. As we now shift gears into the rest of football and
basketball, Cheer is looking forward to cheering our teams onto victory. It is such
an honor to lead these cheerleaders and represent our school at the
competitions.
Softball
Rocket softball was UNSTOPPABLE at the district tournament!!! They beat Jones in 3
games with a run rule last game to take the District Championship. It was truly a great
day to be a Rocket. Liz Cordova again, as she did the day before, hit a towering, tape
measure shot to left center. It was a shot heard round the Jones’ campus. Makenzie
Hudson got the final out in the center for the win. The Rockets will jet up the Turner
Turnpike to Verdigris near Claremore to play in the Regional Tournament against
Perkins - Tryon, Verdigris and Luther. They will play Perkins-Tryon First. GO WIN LADY
ROCKETS!!!
COACH MURPHY SAYS
That District win at Jones was one of the most exciting tournaments I have ever
been a part of. Thank all of you who made the trip out to Jones Thursday and /or
Friday. I am so proud of our girls. To get run ruled in the first game and to come
back and win 2-1 and then run rule in the deciding game in their back yard in front
of their home crowd was just something that will stick with me and the girls
forever. To be associated with a group of young ladies who never quit and who
fight to the end is such an honor and I am so happy for these girls and their
families. We are really looking forward to going up to Verdigris Thursday to play
Perkins.
Football
This last week for football was the big homecoming game. Going in, the whole of
Rocket Nation was hyped and ecstatic at the possibility for our team to go 1-0 in District
play against a stout Bridge Creek team. Our student body was ready for the game after
a very fun homecoming week which was capped off by an intense pep rally earlier
Friday when the homecoming court was announced. The United States Navy marched
onto the field and presented Colors and our Choir under the direction of Dr. Clifton sang
our National Anthem. During halftime the Blue Star Moms of Oklahoma (Moms of
servicemen and women) collected donations to help support the troops. Rocket
generosity again showed with almost 1000 dollars donated. The game was neck and
neck early before the Rockets pulled away for the win. Chris Robinson and Archie
Browne rushed for 95 and 85 yards respectively, each scoring a TD while Jack Turner
scored the third TD with a 25 yard pass from Tipton Parker. The defense was
impressive holding B.C. to only 87 rushing yards. Ethan Morton and Charlie Lane each
racked up sacks. Tony Sellers and his radio show selected Archie Browne on offense
and Stuart Mayfield on defense as the Rocket Players of the Game. Way to go and
congrats Archie and Stuart.
Shana Turner Productions has once again put together a nice video to record the
Homecoming festivities and game. Thanks Shana

The Rockets are sitting on top of their 3A Division as they continue District play Friday
night against John Marshall, Taft Stadium at 7 o’ clock.
COACH PERKINS SAYS
The Homecoming game was quite simply awesome. It is such a great feeling to
look up in the stands and see Rocket Nation in full force out to support our
football team. And then to look down at the hill and see hundreds of students and
alums cheering on our kids. I am so honored to be your Head Football Coach and
I will promise you all that our coaching staff and players will work as hard as we
can until the final snap to represent our school in the Mount Way and to WIN!!I
particularly would like to thank the Navy Honor Guard who came out on a Friday
Night and presented our Nation’s colors and our Choir who sang the National
Anthem. Every day is a great day to be a Rocket. Hope you all will come out to
Taft Stadium for the John Marshall game Friday Night. Thanks for your support.
GO ROCKETS!!
Volleyball
Congratulations to the Volleyball team for winning their first Conference
Tournament Championship over the weekend. The team won five out of six
matches and two tie breaking matches against C.H.A. and O.B.A. to win the
first place trophy. Ashley Jekel, Carmen Kinsey and Jill Ruhl were named
to the All-Tournament team and Jill Ruhl was named the Tournament
M.V.P. The following players were also named to the All-Conference team:
First team: Jill Ruhl and Carmen Kinsey and Second team: Yareli Ruelas
and Sidney Price. The girls were home last night beating Elgin, in 3 games
for senior night. The team said thanks to 4 seniors, Sidney, Emily, Adrianna
and Jourdyn, This Thursday our school will be hosting our third consecutive
Volleyball Regional beginning at 4:30.
COACH JEKEL SAYS
Last night at senior night I was so thankful that I had the opportunity to be with
those seniors at least for a part of their young lives on our volleyball team. You
know we coaches are impacted and inspired by our players and when I reflect on
the seniors it always makes me so proud and grateful. It was a wonderful night
and thanks to all who helped plan and prepare for the evening. So now we are
hosting the Regionals. Hard to believe it is playoff time already. But it is here. I
hope that Rocket Nation comes out and supports our girls. They absolutely love it
when they look up and see all those Rocket students and fans.

CROSS COUNTRY
Cross Country boys and girls are headed over to Bethany on Friday and wow has it
been fun to watch these kids improve. Our girls are ranked Number 4 in State and
our boys are Number 12.
COACH RUPEL SAYS
Our girls and boys have improved so well. Both teams have advanced in the
rankings and continue to improve. They are approaching full stride and I am so
proud of their hard work ethic and the way they compete. They show great
Rocket Pride in everything they do and their team spirit is truly inspiring. If you
haven’t been out to watch a cross Country meet perhaps we will see you at
Bethany. I promise you will not be disappointed.
SO ROCKET NATION UNTIL NEXT WEEK…..GO BIG BLUE AND FLY ROCKETS
FLY!!!!!
