Steffie Ares 6/12 09 Mystery English Ms. Nickell My Precious Jewels It all started after a clear and cheerful night, after an incredible ball at the hotel Mark Strong in New York. Mrs. Pinclifston was the richest woman in Newyork city. Of course she was married to a lovely, strong and courageous man but he had not come to the ball and she was wondering why. She was really glad and still thrilled about that wonderful night she just had dancing and meeting new people. Mrs. Pinclifston was about to get ready for bed when she opened her drawer to put her jewels and stopped moving and stayed still for a while…and started screaming!!! “MY JEWELS ARE GONE!!! AHH!!!” There was nothing in the box. No jewels, no money and right next to the drawer where the jewels were kept, was a laying body…the body of her husband. Not dead because he was still breathing but had a black eye so he must have been hitted by something and then fainted. She automatically called the police. You could hear the sirens. By five minutes they were here. There were police cars all over the place. The house was full of police mans and detectives asking her all sorts of questions regarding her stolen jewels but she could not answer them because she was so traumatized by seeing the body of her husband laying on the stretcher, about to get in the ambulance. Finally her husband woke up. Mr. Pinclifston was so shocked he had no idea what was going on. Mrs. Pinclifston jumped in his arms with gladness and satisfaction. Her eyes were blurry, she was almost crying, because she was so glad he had finally woke up. “What happened!?” said Mrs. Pinclifston with a worried voice. “The only thing I remember is seeing my reflection in the criminal’s glasses but then…nothing.” That evening after the police was gone Mr. Pinclifston kept quiet and seemed like he was worrying about something and at the same time very stressed. On the next morning Sir Christopher Rocklum, the most powerful detective in the city, was reading his favorite news paper the New York Times when he reads about the crime. He was really surprised anybody could have ever been able to steal those very precious jewels because they were so well protected by ferocious Doberman pinchers. His eyes looked up and started rubbing his beard. This is a perfect a perfect case for Raymond Walker! They were old friends since approximately 1997. The first time they had ever solved a case together. As soon as he got this fabulous idea he excitingly ran towards the phone and called Raymond. “Good morning, my name is Christopher Rocklum from DUD, Detective Unit Department from New York City. I would appreciate if you could pass me on to Raymond Walker I would like to speak to him it is very important. Please thank you.” “Yes one moment please.” Pronounced the receptionist of the hotel with impatience. “Hello, Raymond Walker speaking. Who is this?” “Good morning sir, my name is Christopher Rocklum from DUD. I was wondering if you had heard about the case of the stolen jewels sir.” “Of course sir.” said Walker with a snobby voice. Well sir, I was wondering if you could accept my offer of solving this case with me.” said Christopher with a wondering voice. “Yes sir it will be a great honor to solve this cases with the best the most powerful; detective in the city…and also it will be a great opportunity to meet again after these long years.” “Well than we shall meet tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM sharp on Avenue 7 in front of the Pinclifston’s house where the crime was committed. Do not be late!” said Christopher with shaped voice. On the next morning 9:00 Am sharp: Oh my gosh! Where is he!? Christopher Rocklum does not wait for anybody. Now I am alone and this weather is as cold as an ice cube in the freezer. When is he coming? What about if he forgot about me! Oh my gosh! Ok do not worry he will be here in a minute or two. Do not panic. The sun was already rising after the long and bitter night. There were tiny and delicate little rain drops, dew drops from the morning, on the roses and grass surrounding the landscape around the house which created a glimmering and glossy affect. Fifteen minutes had passed when Raymond finally arrived. “Where were you for gosh sake!?” said Rocklum with an angry tone of voice. “DO NOT EVEN ASK…” Christopher and Raymond marched up the cracky and old stairs of the Pinclifston’s house. They rang the long and noisy door bell. Mrs. Pinclifston answered. “Good morning can I help you gentleman?” said Mrs. Pinclifston with a rocky voice since she had just woke up. Christopher got his hand out of his pocket to shake her hand. “Yes please, my name is Christopher Rocklum and he is Raymond Walker. We are both detectives from the DUD. We would like to ask you some questions and examine the crime scene to gather some clues and to know more about what happened last night.” “Of course sir, come in.” said she with a more cheerful voice than before.” “I have heard that your husband was in the room at the time of the crime and fainted. What happened? Does he remember anything?” “Yes, he said the only thing he remembers is seeing his reflection in the criminal’s glasses and then he knocked out.” “Thank you Mrs. Pinclifston this is very precious information. Now may my colleague and I go up stairs to examine the room where the crime was committed? “Sure!” said she with and exited voice. “Thank you.” said both of the detectives. When they arrived to the room they automatically started looking for clues. Obviously Walker took his magnifying glass out, like usual. The room was very bizarre and depressing with the wall full of heads of stuffed creatures. Mr. Pinclifston’s favorite hobby was perceptibly hunting. After half an hour of searching Walker had finally found something. “Come here Rocklum, come!” shouted Raymond with a joyful voice. “I found a strand of dark curly hair!” “Congratulations my dear fellow but you are forgetting something…” “What, What?” said Walker with disappointment. Christopher sat down on the bed with a clever face. “Well the Pinclifston’s have a poodle; it might just be his hair.” “Oh your right.” said Raymond even more disappointed. “Well you know what; I will bring this strand to the lab and will tell you the results when I get them. But for the time being I have to run because I have an appointment with the chief of the NYPD. They told me they have something urgent to clarify with me about the case of the stolen jewels.” “Oh look Raymond, a makeup box.” “It is probably Mrs. Pinclifston’s.” “Why in Mr. Pinclifston?” “Maybe she dropped it.” Then when the two associate arrived down stairs Walker asked Mrs. Pinclifston a copy of every single jewelry that had been stolen. In five minutes they were printed. The two gentlemen also asked the lady if the security man had seen anything but unfortunately the answer was negative. So the criminal must have had passed from the backyard to the dog cage and from there get in the house because in the dog cage there was a little passage which was always unlocked. Since the passage was very narrow a kid would have had to get through and open the back door and himself then escape by the backdoor. So the criminal would have to live close to here. When the two colleagues came out of the splendid residence, a strange man marched towards them. He was the Pinclifston’s neighbor. He was a very charming man. He had blue eyes, old fashioned glasses and dark curled hair. He was a very tall man. He said he admired Raymond and I. His name was Mr. Clifton. He was married to a beautiful and exotic woman called Marie and had two boys called Charles and Simon. His favorite hobby was hunting. Every Sunday he would go hunt with Mr. Pinclifston and another man called Cramer which was a police man that worked at the NYPD. They were really good friends. But the strangest thing with Mr. Clifton is as soon as we started asking him questions about the case of the stolen jewels he amidiatly started getting uncomfortable and said he had to go, and left with hurry. When Christopher was about to leave Mrs. Pinclifston ran towards us with excitement. She told us there was going to be another gala ball to thank the police department for their amazing work in our city. She invited us so we could maybe be able to find more clues. It was going to be next Saturday at 8:00 PM in the five star hotel, Bellevue Hotel, on Palace street. We arrived there right on time that night. Almost nobody was there yet. I had yet got the results from the lab concerning the strand of dark curly hair from last week and it was the strand of a human and not of the poodle. Raymond and I were discussing about the fact that the criminal would have had dark curly hair, glasses when Raymond dropped his papers, the ones with the copy of the jewels that had been stolen. When he stood up the most beautiful and exotic woman he had ever seen was standing in front of him. She was Mr. Clifton’s wife. She was wearing a splendid necklace. She was wearing a red dress with a not at the back. Her brown eyes were sparkling and her skin was soft and clear. The first time he ever saw her he fell under the spell of her beauty. But I did not and thought her necklace looked particularly like the one that had been stolen away from. I verified and it was the exact same thing the gold was 15 karat and real silver on top with little diamonds in the shape of a rose. Before the beautiful woman was about to leave to go see other people another couple came in, Rick and Alissia. They were good friends of Mr. Clifton and Cramer. Alissia was a very rich woman who had her own business. Her company sold very precious jewels, the most expansive ones in the world because most of them were made out of diamonds and other extremely precious stones like ruby. Her shop was named Fashion is Passion, the same shop where Mrs. Pinclifston had bought her jewels. Since the two lovers were going out Rick had got a job at Alissia’s company. Actually they ran the company together and got a lot of money. With the two lovers came along Claudia, Rick’s sister. She was wearing a white dress with black shiny high heels. She was not a very tall woman. She had long, blond and flowing hair as the wind passed through with a whistle of amusement. She was also a very tan woman. The color of her eyes was an amazing aquamarine like the color of the mysterious ocean beyond where the unknown can happen. Her freckled face was as soft as the one of a baby. Even though she was a beautiful woman she was not accompanied by anyone which was very bizarre. Alissia and Claudia did not know each other very well. It was only the second time they had ever met. So as the night was continuing Alissia went to Claudia and started discussing with her. Alissia walked towards Claudia with an air of enjoyment. “Hello.” “Hello.” Said Claudia in response to Alissia with an annoyed voice. “Are you not enjoying yourself?” asked Alissia. “No, because I DO NOT have anybody to dance with.” Answered Claudia livid and impatient.” “I am so sorry for you.” “OK. Can we change subject please?” inquired Claudia “Yes, sure. Have you ever been married?” asked Alissia with interest. “Ye…euhh…no actually no.” assumed Claudia hesitating. “Well than what is that tan line one your left ring finger?” asked Alissia. “Oh that’s nothing just a ring for fun you know. Well I have to go.” “Ok fine.” Oh she is strange! Thought Alissia. The mayor of the city had already started giving the medals but three people were missing, Mr. Pinclifston, Cramer, Simon and John Wilson. Simon was John’s brother. The two brothers had hated each other for many years. Simon had always been so jealous of John. Everyone loved John because he was the oldest and was good in everything. It had been thirty minutes already and they had not come back. Raymond and I were really worried but it was too late. In a sudden we heard a fatal and cruel cry. It was such a powerful scream the pain it had like the last scream of an eagle dying. When I arrived outside the dead body was laying in the car, The body of John Wilson. He had been killed by a gun. He had been shouted in the head. You could see the blood coming out of the whole in his head the ball revolver had created. The ambulance came at fast as the wind. They were here in two minutes. When John’s wife came out of the hotel to see what happened there was a gasp. She looked at John on the stretcher, dead. He was as cold and white as the snow. Lifeless he was. Suddenly Mrs. Wilson screamed with fear. “What happened, WHAT HAPPENED!?” “Someone shouted him in the head.” Whispered I not wanting anybody to hear this. Mrs. Wilson ran away. She did not even want to believe anything we said to her. She was so shocked. In the corner of my left eye I could see Rick, Cramer, Mr. Clifton and Mr. Pinclifston talking. They were whispering and looked like they were arguing about something. On the corner of my right eye I could see Simon with a smile on his face and was a little bit uncomfortable but looked like he did not want to show it. He might have been happy because now he would get all the attention from the family instead of John. Maybe he was uncomfortable in this situation because he had killed John and now regretted it. In front of me were Alissia and Rick. Alissia put her head on top of Rick’s shoulder because she was so tired and so shocked of what was happening. Right next to them was Claudia. She was as red as an angry tomato and as jealous as a tiger. You could see she was about to jump on Alissia especially the part where Alissia was about to kiss Rick but why was she jealous. Raymond and I thought this was very strange so on the next morning I started doing some research on the internet. After long hours of research Christopher had finally found something. The article was about two lovers Claudia and Rick which before lived in California but because Rick had just been fired from the Berkeley University because he was too impatient with the students and called them names which the parents got two know after two long years of teaching he had no more money to pay the lodgment so came here to New York city. Probably that not long after he had arrived here he met Alissia and thought this was a good opportunity for him to make more money and when he would have enough he would divorce with Alissia and stay with Claudia. Christopher was so excited about his discovery that he immediately thought of going to Raymond’s house and tell him all about this. He walked out of the building when he saw Claudia. She was wearing a blue t-shirt with white strips at the top. She was also wearing ripped jeans and very strangely a unique Egyptian necklace. The same one that had been stolen away from Mrs. Pinclifston. Christopher was very interested about this necklace and very curious. “Where did you get this beautiful necklace?” asked Christopher. “Well, actually I got it from Rick. My hus…euhh…my brother is so nice to me.” Said Claudia in response hesitating. “When did he give it to you?” asked Christopher. “About one and a half week ago.” answered Claudia. “Ok well thank you.” said Christopher with a voice of satisfaction. “Anytime.” said Claudia. Now I knew exactly who had stolen the jewels…Rick, but to be sure about this I knew exactly who to ask, but before I would have to go tell Raymond. When I arrived at his house I told him everything from A to Z. We both agreed to call Alissia and to tell her about Rick and Claudia to make her tell us if Rick actually stole the jewels. This is what we did. “Hello?” said Alissia wondering who was on the phone. Hello, my name is Christopher Rocklum I might sound familiar to you. I would like to meet you at the police department this is very important. You have one hour. “Fine I will be there.” said Alissia wondering what was happening. “Good bye.” Added the lady but it was too late the Christopher had already hung up. One hour later lady was asked to follow two police mans to an interrogator room. Christopher and Raymond advanced towards the chair where Alissia was asked to sit down. “Hello my name is Christopher Rocklum and he is Raymond walker. We are both detectives from the DUD, Detective Unit Department. I know you have heard about the case of the stolen jewels am I mistaken?” “Indeed, I definitely have heard about the case.” Answered Alissia. “Is it true that you have agreed with Rick’s decision of stealing the jewels?” asked Raymond. "There is no connection." "In that case the coincidence must indeed be an extraordinary one. But I think that we shall succeed in establishing a connection, after all. I wish to be perfectly frank with you, Alissia. We regard this case as one of stolen jewels, and the evidence may implicate not only your husband Rick but his wife as well." The lady sprang from her chair. "His wife!" she cried. "The fact is no longer a secret. The person who has passed for his sister is really his wife." “Is it true that Rick stole the jewels?” enquired Christopher. “Yes it is him, he stole all of them. I knew it from the beginning there was something strange with Claudia.” said Alissia with no more strength in her voice just about to cry. “Thank you Alissia. You may leave now.” assumed Christopher with a calm voice. As soon as the lady got out of the room, the two detectives were so happy they started doing the happy dance saying “I am the best, I am the best etc...” Of course. Thought Christopher. That is how it happened. When Cramer, Mr Clifton and Mr. Pinclifston went hunting Cramer talked to Mr. Pinclifston about Rick and said he did not have a lot of money and that he wanted Mrs. Pinclifston’s jewels and he probably said no. So he forced him otherwise he would kill him and because Mr. Clifton was there when they talked about that he would have had to swear not to tell which is why he behaved very weirdly when we were talking to him about the case. The makeup we had found in Mr. Pinclifston’s drawer must of been to draw the black eye because if he had been awake then everybody would of thought he had to do something with this case. This is also why Mr. Pinclifston said he saw his reflection in the murderer’s glasses so nobody could of ever thought of accusing Rick because he does not have any glasses. In addition he did not have to pass through the dog’s passage because Mr. Pinclifston opened the back door gave him the jewels and left form the back door, through the field and right to his house. On the next day my colleague and I were at the New York Police Department when a strange man came in. He had a very old hat with a ripped green coat with jeans. His teeth were as brown as beans and had a long beard he never shaved. He was so dirty you could smell him from miles away. He looked very familiar to me somehow. Oh right he was the homeless guy that lived right next to the Pinclifston’s house. “Hello my name is Rodger, I wanted to tell you something very important about the case of the stolen jewels.” whispered him exhausted from the run from Mr. Pinclifston’s house to here. “We are listening.” Said I wondering what he was going to say. “Well I have already told this to John Wilson and was excepting him to tell you but since he died I will have to do it. Remember on the night of the crime. After 10 minutes Mr. Pinclifston “woke up” I saw him going to Cramer and give him jewels. I was hoping this would help you in your quest.” Of course! Since there was only Cramer and John in the car the day of the murder, John would of talked about the stolen jewels and said that a person which is the homeless guy, would of told him he saw Mr. Pinclifston giving Cramer half of the jewels which was the commitment between Rick and Cramer so that Cramer would make the police come late which he did, so there would be no chance for the police to catch Rick running across the field. He would also have said that he would tell everyone it was him that stole the jewels with Rick and so Cramer killed him with his revolver which was hidden deep in his jacket in case of emergency. I saw it when he was lying down on John’s body to swab the blood away which caused the jacket to open and I saw it, on the right side was a pocket within the revolver. “Thank you sir this is very precious information and maybe the last part of our puzzle!” said Christopher agitated. As soon as the chief of the NYPD was ready we all went to Rick’s house. Luckily Cramer was there today was his day off. We rushed through the city, across the fields along the lakes. There was so much traffic we had to turn the lights on for people just to make a meter of space to make us pass. There was so much tension in the car we could not hear each other. We were there in twenty minutes. There were about five cars and about twenty people surrounding Rick’s house. Suddenly the chief took his microphone out and shouted “Rick Cramer on behalf of the law I arrest you for robbery and for butchery. I force you two to come out or we will get you. This is an order not a question.” After a second or two you could see the two criminals Rick and Cramer coming out of the house their hands behind their heads with a lot of humiliation and embarrassment. “Take them to the car straight to jail after what they have done they need at least ten years to think about it.” Said the chief with satisfaction. Before Cramer got in to the car the chief of the NYPD marched towards him and said with disappointment; “I am very disappointed by you son, I thought you were real but apparently I was mistaken. Those were my last words and hope I will never see you again.” “Now take this vermin out of my face. Come on!” shouted the chief. At 10:00 Am on the next day I was already with Raymond on the train going back to Washington DC to go meet the president of the United States of America. He had thought Raymond and I had done a great job and wanted us to work for him at the white house. Raymond and I were drinking wine in celebration of our amazing team work and our good collaboration along these stressful weeks. We were really looking forward to meet the president but even more ecstatic about the next case we would have to solve together.
