Consumer Math
Project Chapters 1-2
Main Objectives:
 Research three particular careers that may be in your future:
o Education background needed for each of the careers
o Range or estimate of each career’s yearly income
o Descriptions of job responsibilities for each career
o Possible uses for math in everyday job setting
 Delve into the monetary dynamics of one particular job:
o What type of payment do they receive? (Straight-time pay, salary,
etc.)
o How often are they paid? (Monthly, Semi-monthly, etc.)
o Calculate what their gross pay, taxes, and net pay might look like for
an average pay period in Pennsylvania.
Grading Rubric is on reverse.
 All of your researched information will be graded on the rubric.
 Each of the three careers has a maximum value of 20 points per (5 per
category), for 60 points total.
 Your chosen career for income and tax breakdown will have a maximum 15
of points (5 per category).
 Your presentation is worth up to 30 points. You can do one of the
following:
o Create a detailed and well organized, typed document, or
o Create a PowerPoint presentation (this would be my recommendation
as it helps keep the project organized).
 The total value of the entire project is 105 points.
