DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF WORK GENERAL NOTES TO CONTRACTOR: Contractor must notify Allegheny County Conservation District (A.C.C.D) at least seven (7) calendar days before construction. The Contractor shall lay out the work as shown on plans, and setup a preconstruction meeting with the Engineer prior to performing any work. Benchmark information is provided on the plans. The Contractor shall be responsible to ensure the final location and elevations agree with the intent of the Contract Drawings. The Engineer must authorize any deviations in location or flow line elevation. The Contractor shall also furnish men and equipment to assist the Engineer, Owner’s Representative or Inspector in checking the layout work when required. All excavation shall be unclassified and no extra payment will be made for rock, boulders, shale, timbers, logs, old foundations, masonry or other natural or artificial materials encountered in the trenching operations except as may be noted in the Engineering Specifications. The Contractor shall make personal examination of the locations in which the pipelines are to be constructed to determine for himself the extent of the rock that may be encountered. The Contractor acknowledges there may not be sufficient time to perform pre-bid borings to determine the nature of the subsurface conditions and that the Contractor may have to rely on its visual inspection of the site when making a determination as to the character of the subsurface conditions. No information regarding subsurface conditions along the routes of the pipelines will be given by the owner. The Contractor shall assume all risks associated with the composition of the subsurface materials and the ease or difficulty of excavation. The Contractor shall not at any time claim a misunderstanding regarding the depth or character of the excavation to be made or in the nature of the materials to be encountered. If total Bid proposal is greater than $25,000, the prevailing wage rates included herein will be applicable. If total Bid proposal is less than $25,000,the prevailing wage rates included herein will not be applicable. ITEM 1 15” HDPE STORM SEWER This Item includes the cost of labor and materials required to excavate and install the storm sewer line as shown on the plans. The Contractor, shall submit Unit Prices per Lineal Foot to furnish and install HDPE Storm sewer Pipe, complete in place, including all required excavation, bedding, backfill to sub grade, required fittings and/or adapters required to connect the new pipe to the proposed Inlets. Item also includes the furnishing and installation of flexible sleeve pipe connections, and re-connection to existing storm inlet, Pipe material shall be as detailed in the Engineering Specifications. This Item also includes the cost of labor and materials required to install the stone bedding around the pipe, and full stone backfill of the trench to sub grade. Restoration is to be under separate Bid item. Contractor shall saw cut the existing pavement as required and all material not utilized during backfill shall be hauled offsite to a site having an Allegheny County Conservation District approved soil erosion and sediment pollution control plan implemented. ITEM 2 10” SDR 35 PVC PIPE This Item includes the cost of labor and materials required to excavate and install the roof leaders as shown on the plans. This item also includes the stone bedding around the pipe, and full stone backfill of the trench. All work shall be completed in accordance with Allegheny County Plumbing Codes, and all applicable ordinances. Restoration is to be under separate Bid item. ITEM 5 TYPE “M” STORM INLET This Item includes the cost of labor and materials required to purchase and install new pre-cast concrete Inlet to depth as shown on plans, with cast iron frame and bicycle safe grate complete in place, including all required excavation, bedding, backfill, the furnishing and installation of flexible sleeve pipe connections, as shown on plans or specified herein, and restoration of all disturbed areas shall also be included in this Bid Item. Contractor shall verify elevation of flow lines, prior to ordering precast inlets. No extra compensation will be considered due to incorrect sizes of openings and existing connections. ITEM 6 10” DIAMETER CLEANOUT ASSEMBLY This Item includes the cost of labor and materials required to purchase and install the cleanout assembly as shown on plans complete with Metal cover and shall also include all required excavation, bedding, backfill, the furnishing and installation of all pipe connections, as shown on plans or specified herein. Restoration is to be under separate Bid item ITEM 7 8” DIAMETER CLEANOUT ASSEMBLY This Item includes the cost of labor and materials required to purchase and install the cleanout assembly as shown on plans complete with Metal cover and shall also include all required excavation, bedding, backfill, the furnishing and installation of all pipe connections, as shown on plans or specified herein. Restoration is to be under separate Bid item ITEM 8 6” DIAMETER FLOOR DRAINS This Item includes the cost of labor and materials required to purchase and install a Zurn Industries (or equivalent) Floor Drain shown on plans complete with a Domed cover as shown on plans. This item shall also include all required excavation, bedding, backfill, the furnishing and installation of all pipe connections, as shown on plans or specified herein, restoration of all disturbed areas shall be included under separate Bid Item. Page 2 ITEM 9 CONCRETE RESTORATION The Contractor shall furnish and install reinforced concrete pavement in all areas disturbed by this construction, complete in place, including placement of 5-Inch compacted depth of 2B stone, cinder or gravel sub-base, 2 layers (top and bottom) of No. 6/6 gauge welded wire fabric ½-Inch pre-molded expansion joints and finished surface treatment. Concrete thickness shall match that of the existing adjacent concrete; however a minimum of 4” thick concrete shall be applied. This item will be paid on a Unit Price per square foot. Not less than fifteen (15) days after completion of said concrete work, two coats of Boiled Linseed Oil and Mineral Spirits is to be applied to ALL new finished concrete surfaces as follows: First Application - 50 percent Boiled Linseed Oil and 50 percent Mineral Spirits, one gallon not to exceed forty square yards, spray application only. ITEM 10 ASPHALT RESTORATION The Unit Price Bid for pavement restoration shall include compaction of 8” 2A modified subbase material, placement of 5 inch compacted depth of 19 mm Binder Material and 1 ½-inch compacted depth of 9.5 mm Wearing Surface Material and shall also include, but not be limited to, filling of all depressions, cutting of keyways, and sweeping and power brooming of street. ITEM 11 SEEDING AND MULCHING – GRASS RESTORATION This Item includes the cost of labor and materials required to fine grade, and seed and mulch all disturbed areas as a result of construction. Contractor shall install any new landscaping if disturbed during construction. Contractor shall be responsible for routine inspections to ensure that the seeded areas have been germinated and there are no visual signs of “bare spots” or unvegetated areas.
