PANTHER VALLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT PANTHER VALLEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TITLE 1 PARENT INVOLVEMENT POLICY The Title 1 Parent Involvement of the Panther Valley School District (PVSD) was written in accordance with the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), section 1118 in conjunction with the PVSD Title 1 staff. Parental involvement means the participation of parents in regular, two-way, and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities, including: Parents playing an integral role in assisting their child’s learning Encouraging parents to be actively involved in their child’s education at school Parents acting as full partners and decision-makers in their child’s education Parents participating in advisory committees involving the education of their child Parents receiving information about Title 1 programs, parent meetings and other school related activities via letters, brochures, phone calls, emails, school calendar, district website, newspapers, student handbooks, and local cable television Parents requesting information regarding the professional qualifications of their child’s teachers and paraprofessionals who provide instructional services PVSD will provide assistance to parents with a description and explanation of the curriculum, the types of academic assessment used to measure and monitor student progress, the State’s academic content and student achievement standards, and interventions available to increase student success. The school district will provide materials and training to help parents work with their children to improve achievement and foster involvement, by: Providing books and materials to parents through each academic building’s lending library Offering appropriate computer training and information on educational websites aimed at increasing student achievement Making parents aware of organizations, such as: PTO, PATTAN, PA Department of Education and Internet sites which provide helpful educational information Providing strategies for reading and mathematics success Making parents aware of their child’s specific strengths and weaknesses and offer enrichment and intervention designed to improve performance Providing materials, such as: study guides, worksheets, websites, graphic organizers, etc… Providing opportunities to attend workshops and conferences at the local and state level Working as a team with the instructional support teachers to show parents how to help at home Encouraging parents to attend the following Title 1 sponsored events: Back-To-School Night, ParentTeacher Conferences, Family Night, PSSA and Standardized Test Explanation Night, Title 1/PTO Sponsored Events and Meetings, and Title 1 Summer Reading Challenge Kickoff PVSD and the Parent Advisory Committee will conduct an annual evaluation of the content and effectiveness of the Parent Involvement Policy. An annual needs assessment survey will encourage parental input and suggestions.
