Instructions and Criteria for Honors Undergraduate Students Requesting
Enrollment in 600-Level Courses and Earning Honors credits.
To enroll in a 600-level course for the purposes of receiving Honors credit for a graduate–level course,
undergraduate Honors students must
1. Be classified as a senior (a minimum of 90 credits), and within 30 units of completing all requirements
for baccalaureate graduation, i.e., within two semesters of graduating
2. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5
3. Complete the Honors Undergraduate Approval for Honors Credit for Graduate Study form
4. Obtain the written approvals of the course instructor and of the Director of the Honors Program
5. Submit completed form to the Graduate School (Fitzgerald Student Services Building, Room 225) to
obtain final approval from the Dean of the Graduate School. Final approval must be obtained by August
15th for fall semester courses or January 15th for the spring semester.
To be approved, students must choose a graduate-level course that is
1. 600-level; 700-level courses will not be approved
2. Worth 3 or more credits
3. Lecture-based; labs, independent studies, practicums, and internships are not eligible
4. Not a course the student has taken for undergraduate credit in the past
Once the form has been submitted and approved, the student may register for the graduate course in MyNevada.
To earn Honors credits for a 600-level course, the Honors student must
1. Have on file in the Honors Program office the completed Honors Undergraduate Approval for Honors
Credit for Graduate Study form
2. Complete the same assignments as graduate students and be evaluated on the same criteria as the
graduate students
3. Earn a B- or higher
4. Not exceed 6 Honors credits of 600-level coursework
Credit will NOT be calculated toward the student’s undergraduate GPA, but the credits earned will help satisfy
Honors requirements.
