Box Tops Over $1,100 of Box Tops have been collected since the start of school. The Box Tops are used to buy Chrome Books and iPads for the classrooms. CCSA will fund devices for our second and third grades during the 2014-2015 school year. Math Mania is Coming! Fun Facts Mathematics is important in many different types of jobs, including engineering, business, science, medicine and more. What comes after a million, billion and trillion? Why a quadrillion, quintillion, sextillion, septillion, octillion and nonillion of course. The equal sign (=) was invented by 16th Century Welsh mathematician Robert Recorde, who was tired of writing "is equal to" in his equations. A pie can be cut into 8 pieces with 3 movements. Googol is the term used for a number 1 followed by 100 zeros, first used by a nine-year old (Milton Sirotta) in 1940. The name of the popular search engine ‘Google’ came from a misspelling of the word ‘googol’. New Library Books Through your support of CCSA’s book fairs we purchased $270 worth of books for our library. Our next book fair will be held November 24 & 25. Playground Equipment The CCSA purchased hula hoops, footballs, kick balls and flying discs for the playground fun during recess. Ask your children about the fun they are having with them! Media Cart for Fourth Grades CCSA has purchased a media cart for the 16 Chrome Books being used in the fourth grade classrooms to allow charging and safe storage of the devices when not in use. Fun Run Fun Run was a success even though the weather didn’t cooperate and we were forced to run inside the gym for ten minutes. Principal Smith and many parent volunteers cheered as our school completed laps equaling 208 miles. This distance would be equal to traveling from Cherry Creek to the Quincy Mine in Hancock, MI! All runners were given a certificate of completion and a banana before they went back to class. The classrooms of Mrs. Wales, Ms. Kuopus, and Mrs. Marceau had the highest lap count average per student and earned the right to pelt the parrot (CCSA President Mackey) with water balloons. Page 2 of 3 They will also have a story read to them by Principal Smith. The students represent the portion of the tree that is visible. We as parents are the root system that allows the tree to become strong and grow. As parents we support our kids with proper nutrition and sleep habits, assisting with homework, and being involved in our school community. This vision will be a focus of CCSA and Cherry Creek staff during this school year as we grow our tree together.
