ABSTRACT
This is a MS Word template, designed to assist you on formatting your paper for
submission at the International Conference on Music Semiotics, in Memory of
Raymond Monelle. For optimum use, do not make changes or modifications to the
page layout or paragraph styles. If you experience any difficulties using this template,
please contact the Organization Committee of the ICMS-MRM conference by
sending an email message to edmusemiotics@gmail.com.
1. USING THIS TEMPLATE
Template documents for the recommended word processing software are available from
the Conference Website1 for MS Word (Mac and PC). Click on the appropriate template to
download to your desktop.
Copy or write your text into the template and use the Save As command to save your
paper. Because this template has been set up to meet requirements for the conference papers,
it is important to maintain the established paragraph styles.
A Microsoft Word “Quick Style” menu, shown in Figure 1, has been created in order to
assist you. Simply place the cursor on the paragraph or highlight the text that you want to
format, chose the correct option from the Styles menu on MS Word’s Home tab, and let the
software do all the formatting.
Figure 1. Microsoft Word Paragraph Style selection
The Styles Menu has ten options specifically for your title, authors, abstract text, new
chapter, standard text, subchapters, footnotes and quotes. Please assign each section of your
paper to the indicated style by simply clicking on it.
For example, when starting a new chapter, you can type its name and then select the
“4.New Chapter” style from the menu, and word will automatically assign the numbering and
the section’s name with the correct size and font.
