Under supervision, you will deliver nursing care to residents including: Personal Hygiene – assisting to wash, dress, mouth care etc. Pressure Area Care – pressure ulcer prevention. Appropriate use of pressure relieving equipment, turn charts and risk assessments. Diet & Fluid Intake – maintain/improve nutritional intake, including the management of residents requiring enteral feeding, special diets and nutritional risk assessment. Elimination – continence care, including catheter and bowel care. Communication – development of communication skills when dealing with deaf/blind/dysphasic residents. Psychological Care – developing a rapport with residents to promote trust and confidence between nurse and resident. Wound Care – wound assessment, selection of appropriate dressings and aseptic technique. Infection Control – applying prevention and infection control interventions as per policy. Co-Ordinating Care – liaising with other disciplines and relatives. Learning Opportunities To assist you in achieving your learning outcomes, there are various learning opportunities that may be available to students at Ty Gwyn. These need to be discussed and agreed with your mentor/s. You will be able to: Attend CHC (Continuing Health Care) review meetings with UHB (University Health Board) and Social Workers. Shadow the weekly GP ward round (Dr. Butterworth) Spend time with other members of the multidisciplinary team i.e. Physiotherapist, Activities Co-Ordinator and Chaplain. Attend domiciliary assessments with the Manager and her Deputy. Spend time at Morel Court MHA Residential Home and Live at Home scheme located in Penarth.
