All schools are expected to have representation at this meeting. Failure to attend the meeting can result in penalties to that institution. 2. South Region dues of $175 are due to the South Region Treasurer by September 30. 3. By August 1 of each year, Athletic Directors must send a roster of coaches to the Regional Chair. 4. Eligibility forms are due to Jerry Malone at the NCCAA National Office prior to the first contest or scrimmage in that sport. The South region will establish an equal rotation for all member schools to have the opportunity to host each sport regional in which they participate and pay dues. 2. No more than two region tournaments may be hosted by one member institution with in the NCCAA D-I South Region in one calendar year. a. M/W Soccer Region Tournament count as one tournament b. M/W Tennis Region Tournament count as one tournament c. Golf & Cross Country not included 3. If an institution scheduled to host a regional tournament is unable to host, that institution must give a minimum 60-day notice to the NCCAA. The alternate listed will be the next in line to host should the original host back out. An institution that fails to notify the NCCAA that they are unable to host within 60 days will face sanctions. Special circumstances will be considered. 4. If the member institution elects not to host a region tournament for any reason, (facility challenges, advancing in NAIA/NCAA post-season, institutional post-season policy, etc.), then they lose their opportunity to host and would drop to the bottom of the region rotation. 5. If both the designated host school and the alternate are unable to host the tournament, then the host responsibilities would become available via an open bid process from region members. The bids shall be submitted to the South Region Chair. Once all the bids are collected an email is sent to all the region Athletic Directors for a vote on the region tournament site. 6. If a member institution is awarded a region tournament through a bid process that member institution may exceed the two region tournament maximum. 7. If it is geographically reasonable to play any “play-in” game within a geographical area (i.e. North Greenville & Southern Wesleyan) then the Region Sport Chair and D-I Region Chair will work with the two participating schools to set a date and time that will allow them to participate in the scheduled region contest. 8. ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES AND DUTIES A. Region Chair 1. The Regional Chair shall be elected by a vote of the regional athletic directors. The chair shall serve a three (3) year term. 2. Duties include: a. Direct and administer NCCAA sports within the region. b. In concert with the Director of Member Relations, screen applicants from prospective Regional colleges for NCCAA membership. c. Serve on the National Administrative Council. d. Develop unity among member institutions within the region. e. Represent the region at the NCCAA Annual Convention. f. Not enter into any vendor contractual agreements without the permission of the NCCAA Executive Director. g. Receive and record eligibility reports for their Division. h. Publicize, administer, and moderate annual regional meetings and any special meetings. i. Concurrently with each sport chair, oversee the operation of each regional tournament. j. Serve as liaison to the National Office and Board of Directors (includes annual report). k. Supply awards (championship banners, All-South Regional & Coach of the Year certificates). l. Assist with accumulation of regional sports information. m. Chair the Executive Committee, which consists of all Athletic Directors and Sports Chairs. n. Appoint members to the Executive Committee (Athletic Directors and Sports Chairs). 3. If the region chair is a member of a NCCAA Division 1 institution, then the vice-chair should be a member of an NCCAA Division 2 institution, and vice-versa. This will ensure equal representation at the Division 1 and Division 2 level. B. Region Vice-Chair 1. The Regional Vice-Chair shall be elected by a vote of the regional athletic directors. The Vice-Chair shall serve a three-(3) year term and then succeed to the Regional Chair for a three-(3) year term. 2. Duties include: a. Assist the Regional Chair in overall operation of Regional business. b. Perform the duties of the Regional Chair in his/her absence. c. Assist the Regional Chair in processing eligibility reports and regional meetings for their Division. d. Oversee eligibility for the Division I or II, not overseen by the Regional Chair. 3. If the region chair is a member of a NCCAA Division 1 institution, then the vice-chair should be a member of an NCCAA Division 2 institution, and vice-versa. This will ensure equal representation at the Division 1 and Division 2 level. C. Treasurer 1. Duties include: a. Maintain regional treasury. b. Collect dues from member schools. 12 2. The region treasurer is appointed by the region chair. D. Regional Sports Chair 1. The Sport Chair shall be elected by a vote of the respective coaches of each sport. The Sport Chair shall serve a three-(3) year term. 2. Duties include: a. Oversee and administer regional tournament. b. Concurrently work with National Office to determine eligibility of each team (regional dues and eligibility forms). c. Concurrently work with National Sports Chair to communicate with regional coaches. Encourage participation at both the regional and national levels. d. Serve as a representative at the national tournament. e. Arrange conference-call seeding meeting or coordinate seeding for tournaments. f. Serve on All-American and Scholar-Athlete Selection Committee and National Sports Committee at national meeting. g. Concurrently work with Sports Information Directors to accumulate statistics throughout the year and selection of All-South Regional team. h. Provide a written report of the regional tournament to the Regional Chair for inclusion into the annual report. i. Be responsible for writing and updating the Region Handbook as well as keeping up with the regional rotation in relation to their particular sport. II. SPORTS INFORMATION GUIDELINES A. National Statistics -- Gabe Wallis (864-567-1615, stats@thenccaa.org) is the NCCAA Statistician. He can also be contacted at the National Office, extension 106. B. Regional Awards 1. The All-Region selection procedure is coordinated by the Sport Chair. Prior to the Regional Tournament, each sport’s Chair will provide teams with nomination forms and instructions. 2. Any coach who does not meet the specific deadlines of nomination will penalize his/her players who are of All-Region caliber. 3. In order for a coach to be able to nominate players for any team, that school must be a member of the NCCAA in good standing. Regional and national dues must be paid. 4. Participation in the regional tournament is not required for a school to be represented on the All-Region team. 5. Nomination Guidelines a. Nomination procedures for All-Region and Scholar Athlete teams will be administered by the Sport Chair. Nominations will be due to the Sport Chair prior to the Regional Tournament, at a date provided by the Chair. b. Coaches’ nominations must appear in ranked order. c. A player must have played in half of the team’s games at the time of the nomination in order to be eligible for nomination. 13 6. Voting Guidelines a. Vote in rank order - #1 best player, and so on. This procedure is important in tie-breaking. In the case of a tie, the number of votes will serve as the tie-breaker, followed by the highest rank of votes received. b. Coaches may not vote for their own players. c. All votes must be for players whose names are on the ballot. No write-in votes. d. Any specific criterion for voting is determined by respective sport. e. Coaches will have the opportunity to speak on behalf of his/her All-Region nominees at the Regional Tournament coaches’ meeting. Cumulative stats are a useful tool for voting. f. The Region Sports Chair will mail two certificates per person to the host site for the regional tournament. The presentation of the All-South Region certificates and Coach of the Year certificates is to be done following the regional championship contest. The host school will be responsible for handling the awards presentation in the absence of the Region Sports Chair. 7. Coach of the Year a. The Coach of the Year award is intended to honor a coach who has done “the best job” with his/her team throughout the season. It is up to each individual coach who votes to determine voting priority. b. Any specific criterion for voting is determined by respective sport. c. The Regional Coach of the Year will be announced at the conclusion of the championship match. III. ETHICS AND BEHAVIOR A. NCCAA Administrators and Coaches Code of Ethics 1. All coaches and administrators are expected to adhere to the Administrators and Coaches Code of Ethics as stated online at www.theNCCAA.org in all competition. 2. The Administrators and Coaches Code of Ethics form must be signed and returned to the NCCAA office by September 30 of each year. B. Student-Athlete Code of Ethics 1. All student-athletes are expected to adhere to the NCCAA Student Athlete Code of Conduct as stated online at www.theNCCAA.org in all competition. 2. The Student-Athlete Code of Conduct form must be signed and returned to the NCCAA office by September 30 of each year. C. Coaches are responsible for the conduct of their student-athletes while participating in NCCAA Regional and National competition. IV. REGIONAL TOURNAMENT ADMINISTRATION A. Dates and sites 1. The NCCAA Regional Tournament dates and sites shall be determined at the National Convention. 2. The Regional Tournament must not exceed four days. 14 3. All teams wishing to participate who meet Declaration of Intent to Participate standards will be allowed to participate. 4. Sites will follow the regional rotation as institutions are willing and capable to host. 5. In most cases, each host school must have the following minimums to qualify to host the following sports: a. Four locker rooms. b. Volleyball – Two official-size competition courts if more than two schools are participating c. Soccer – NCCAA approved all-grass or all-turf playing field, official size B. Host responsibilities 1. Assume the following financial obligations: a. Appropriately certified officials (sport specific) b. Programs c. Hospitality d. Banquet, if possible, with speaker & food 2. In conjunction with the region sport chair, distribute information to participating teams a. Tournament schedule b. All-Region, All-Tournament, Coach of the Year ballots (a) Should be given to participating coaches at the tournament coaches’ meeting. This will be coordinated with the help of the South Region Chair. c. Institution-specific policies and guidelines d. Visiting team packet (including lodging and food options, campus information, etc.) 3. Collect updated rosters from participating teams at least three days prior to the tournament. 4. Tournament structure that limits missed class time 5. Secure host hotel, with room rates not to exceed reasonable room rates per room per night. Internet and complimentary breakfast preferred. 6. Secure meeting room for coaches’ meeting 7. Assign officials 8. Provide practice and game balls, if applicable. 9. Organize Christian Service Project, to be participated in by all competing schools. 10. Complete financial expense report and submit to Region Vice-Chair. 11. Provide South Region Chair and Director of Member Relations with all game scores. 15 V. STATISTICS A. Reports-- The South Region Chair will send a report to the NCCAA Statistician and to the Director of Member Relations listing the All-Region team, the Regional Coach of the Year, and the scores of all matches. VI. ELIGIBILITY A. An affidavit of eligibility (NCCAA Official Eligibility Certificate) must be on file with the National Office and must be postmarked prior to the date of the first competition each season. B. Regional and national dues must be paid in order to be eligible to compete in Regional and National Tournaments. Regional dues are due to the South Region Treasurer by September 30. C. Penalty for not reporting statistics on time/at all: 1. 1st offense – warning 2. 2nd offense – $100 fine to be paid before regional tournament 3. 3rd offense – team is not allowed post season play D. Each team planning on participating in the Regional Tournament must have representation at the Regional meeting. This representative – usually the Head Coach – must have submitted nominations for All-Region and Scholar Athletes to the Sport Chair in advance, and should provide statistics at the meeting for All-Region voting. E. A team must declare its intent to participate in both the Regional and National Tournaments by submitting the Declaration of Intent to Participate in NCCAA Regional/National Competition form by the following dates: 1. Fall sports – September 15 2. Winter sports – January 15 3. Spring sports – March 1 VII. TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE A. Tournaments should include as many teams as possible, with no fewer than two participating teams. If only one declares intent to participate, that team will automatically qualify for the National Tournament, assuming all necessary qualifications are met. Regional Tournaments are to follow the structure of NCCAA National Tournaments. B. All teams shall participate in the Christian Service Project, organized by host institution. C. For sport-specific rules, rulebooks, and enforcement, reference individual sport handbooks. VIII. TOURNAMENT SEEDING A. The South Region Sport Chair will make contact with each declaring team no later than the Saturday preceding the tournament. B. Seeding for the South Region Tournament will be based on the criteria set up by each respective sport. Amendments for winter sports must be submitted by January 15 and spring sports by March 1. It is understood that by declaring to participate we commit ourselves to represent our Region should we win the Region Playoff. The only conditions for waiving this declaration is the continued advancement in NAIA or NCAA postseason competition or one of the listed institutional limitations indicated. (NOTE: If you have sports competing through an approved NCCAA Dual Division request, please indicate the NCCAA Division under which each sport is competing.) Be of junior or senior academic standing making normal progress toward a degree. 2. Have completed at least one semester or quarter at the nominating institution. 3. Be a competing student-athlete or a varsity letter winner or that institution’s equivalent in the sport for which nominated. 4. Have maintained a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.40 on a 4.00 scale at the nominating institution. Transfer students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.40 on a 4.00 scale based on all grades at all institutions attended, regardless of whether a course grade is accepted at the nominating institution. GPA cannot be rounded up. III. PROCEDURE FOR NOMINATION A. The nominating institution must submit a completed nomination for to the respective National Sport Chair one week prior to the National Championship. B. The Region Chair will e-mail the tournament brackets to every head basketball coach in the South Region the will include seedings , dates and times for each tournament game the Sunday before the Regional Tournament begins. The host institution will communicate with the person that assigns officials for the tournament asking that person, if possible, to have officials that have not officiated any home games for the host institution during the season to officiate the tournament games. IV. AWARDS A. Each head coach will nominate players from his team and send them to the Regional Chair prior to the Regional Tournament. The Regional Chair will send all nominations to the head coaches and the head coaches will select 10 players for All Region. The voting process will be as follows: The top player will receive 10 points, then 9 points and so on. The player with the most points will be Regional Player of the Year. The top 5 players will be First Team All-Region; the second 5 will be Second Team All-Region. B. Coaches will vote for South Region Coach of the Year 22 NCCAA, Division I South Region Women’s Basketball Handbook 1. All the rules and regulations of the NCCAA apply to Women’s basketball participation. 2. Basketball chair of the south region will perform the following duties; ask for teams to declare by Feb. 1 if they are considering playing in the regional tournament, check the rotation of schools set up by the south region to host the region tournament and contact those schools to see if they are willing to host, if school opts out of hosting then the bid goes to the next school in line and so on, chair will work with the host school in arranging the championship brackets with game times and seeding, seeding will be set according to the Burbidge ratings of the participating teams one week prior to the tournament, host school will be directed to inform all schools of necessary tournament information such as places to stay and eat, host school will also be responsible for all tournament costs, the basketball chair will contact south region schools to collect nominations and send out a ballot for the all south region team , chair will send out results of all region team voting and rank them according to numbers of votes, the allregion team will be sent to all voting schools and passed on to the national sports chair to be included for all American consideration, the sport chair will also send out the dates and site of the next years regional tournament to all schools participating in the region and to the national sports chair and regional chair. The region tournament champions coach will be declared region coach of the year. 3. The basketball chairs position is a nominated position each year at the NCCAA South Region meeting at the national convention. If no one else is nominated then chair will retain the position for another year. 4. As the NCCAA adds or deletes schools they will be added or removed to any rotation that is being used by the south region. 5. Questions concerning changes in this handbook will need to be presented to the basketball chair and then passed on to the participating schools to vote on. 6. Any rules changes or eligibility issues that apply to the NCCAA will immediately apply to this handbook. 23 NCCAA, Division I Men’s and Women’s Soccer South Region Handbook I. GENERAL ADMINISTRATION The NCCAA National Men’s/Women’s Soccer Championship and all events related thereto are under the control and supervision of the NCCAA men’s/women’s soccer coaches and are subject to standards developed by these respective coaches and subsequent approval of the NCCAA Board of Directors. The Championship Games Committee shall be selected and approved annually and shall consist of the following: the NCCAA National Men's/Women’s Soccer Chair, Vice-Chair or Past-Chair; a NISOA representative, a National Office representative and up to three soccer coaches (appointed by the soccer coaches annually) with broad geographical representation. This committee shall have responsibility to administer the National Men’s/Women’s Soccer Championship. II. GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR POST-SEASON PLAY A. Guidelines for Regional Playoffs 1. All regional playoff games shall be played at a site, date and time mutually agreed upon by regional coaches or athletic directors. 2. A team shall not be required to play more than one game per day in postseason play. 3. Regions must conduct a playoff to determine a regional champion, who shall then move on to the National Championship. 4. No regional championship banners shall be awarded to teams that do not travel to the National Championship. 5. Competing teams in NCCAA regional playoffs shall be seeded according to the Longo Rating System. Please see Appendix E in National Handbook for Longo Rating information and forms. 6. Under consideration of the current national tournament dates it is recommended the regional tournament will be played the week prior to Thanksgiving. 7. Sites for all playoff games must conform to all minimum regulations with reference to the field and all related appurtenances as listed in the official NCAA Soccer Rulebook. A minimum size of 70x110 is required for the region championship weekend. In addition, if 8 or more teams are participating in the regional tournament, the host site must provide facilities with lights or a complex with two playable fields that meet minimum requirements. 8. If possible, field dimensions should be the same size when multiple fields are used for the regional tournament. 9. The institution hosting the championship must provide a satisfactory means for charging admission to the games. 24 10. Any team that enters and begins play in NCCAA regional playoffs is making a commitment to the NCCAA that said team shall continue through the NCCAA playoffs and, if qualified, in the National Championship. Any failure to comply with this shall result in review of the said team by the NCCAA Administration Committee of the Board of Directors. 11. Any institution failing to report weekly statistics twice during the regular season or failing to pay their statistical fee shall be ineligible for postseason participation and/or awards. 12. The hosting institution is responsible to keep stats for all games and provide them to both teams at the conclusion of the game. 13. The host site is responsible for the assignment of officials. 14. A Conference Call will be arranged by the region chair prior to Christmas following the regional tournament. This is meant to address any concerns within the region or region tournament. 15. Structure -- Teams must submit a declaration of intent to participate in the region tournament to the Region Soccer Chair no later than the 2nd to the last Wednesday in October. Dual member institutions can declare contingent upon playoff success in the school’s other membership organization. Two reasons are acceptable for an institution to withdraw following a declaration to participate. a. The first is due to playoff success in another membership organization b. The second allowable reason is in the case that the institution has a percentage win rule in order to participate and the institution fails to achieve the acceptable win percentage. This situation should be immediately communicated to the Region Chair when it is apparent that the win percentage cannot. B. Format for the Regional Championship 1. The Regional Championship will be made up of all the teams that declare to participate through the Declaration of Intent form. 2. All teams participating in the regional tournament will travel to the host site (host site is determined by region rotation). There is no “play-in” game. This was voted on unanimously by the athletics directors at the June 4, 2011 NCCAA South Region Meeting. 3. The tournament will be single elimination. 4. If more than 4 teams declare for the South Region Tournament, then the tournament will be over 4 days (Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday) with a rest day in between the semifinal and final matches. If fewer than 4 teams declare for the tournament, then the tournament will follow a 2 day format (Friday and Saturday). 25 5. Below are the Tournament Scenarios based on the number of teams competing: 8 Teams: #1 vs #8, #2 vs #7, #3 vs #6, #4 vs #5 7 Teams: #1 Bye, #2 vs #7, #3 vs #6, #4 vs #5 6 Teams: #1 Bye, #2 Bye, #3 vs #6, #4 vs #5 5 Teams: #1 Bye, #2 Bye, #3 Bye, #4 vs #5 4 Teams: #1 vs #4, #2 vs #3 3 Teams: #1 Bye, #2 vs #3 2 Teams: #1 vs. #2 6. The current NCAA Soccer Rule Book shall govern all Championship games. 7. Host’s Responsibilities: a. Assume the following financial obligations: 1) Officials 2) Soccer Balls 3) Programs 4) Hospitality 5) The host site is responsible for all costs related to hosting the regional tournament. There will be no fee for participating teams. The region champion school will be responsible to pay the national tournament fee (currently $250). 6) Local Food and Lodging Options 8. Region Chair will inform participating teams of the following: a. Schedule of Games - Coordinate with Region Sport Chair b. Specific Policies and Service Guidelines of School III. ADVERTISING The host institution of a Regional or National Championship shall not accept advertising nor promote in any way the marketing of alcoholic beverages, tobacco, or illegal drugs in connection with the NCCAA soccer program, merchandise or signage. IV. AWARDS – look at paragraph The NCCAA maintains a standardized awards program for all national championships: top 4 teams, the Most Valuable Player, the Outstanding Offensive Player, the Outstanding Defensive Player, and the Coach of the Year awards are ordered and paid for by the National Office (National Women's Soccer Chair). All other awards (i.e. All-Tournament, etc.) are paid for by the championship gate income. The treasury of the winning region or the winning institution shall pay for individual and team awards at the regional level. A. All-Region 1. Team representatives a. 1st place team at region tournament will have at least 4 players named to the all-region team b. 2nd place team at the region tournament will have at least 3 players named to the all region team c. 3rd-4th place teams will have at least 2 players named to the all-region teams d. The three remaining players will be nominated based on the highest number of votes 26 2. Team members a. The team shall be made up of 14 players. One goalkeeper, four defenders, four midfielders, four forwards. b. One alternate player from any position of the field will make up the remaining spot on the first team. This player must receive the next highest number of votes for their position c. Criteria i. Players should be of high character on and off the field. Players receiving red cards during the season will be discussed as to the manner they received the card(s). ii. Coach’s endorsement is strongly suggested for each nominee. iii. For teams not participating in regional’s nominees must be submitted to the region chair before the start of region post-season play. iv. Region nominations must be sent to the region chair two weeks prior to the region championship. v. Coaches must submit completed all-region ballots to the regional chairs prior to the region championship tournament. (The use of e-mail is recommended) vi. Tie breakers will be determined by region team ranking at the end of the regional tournament. The player on the highest seeded team in the regional tournament will be named to the all-region team. d. Coaches can nominate no more than five players for the all-region team. 3. Voting a. All coaches in the region will be given asked to fill out their selection for the all-region team. The ballot will consist of 2 votes for keeper and 4 votes for each position – forward, midfield, and defense. 4 points will be given to the 1st place vote, 3 points for the 2nd place vote, 2 point for the third place vote, and 1 point for the 4th place vote. b. Keepers will receive either 2 pts (1st place vote) or 1 pt (2nd place votes) for each nomination. 4. Region Player of the Year a. Each coach may select one player from their team for Region Player of the Year. All necessary information, statistics, honors, awards, etc. should be included. A ballot will be compiled by the Region Chair and distributed to all coaches competing in the region. Coaches will then vote and return to Region Chair for a final tally. If there is a tie, the player on the highest placed team at the end of the regional tournament will receive the award. The All-Region Player must represent the NCCAA both and off the field. b. Player resumes, including, but not limited to position and stats, must be included with all-region nominations. This will be considered when placing votes for All-American honors. B. Coaching Honors 1. The team that wins the region will have their coach named as coach of the year unless 75% or more of the coaches vote for a different coach of the year. 2. Votes will be received on the regional ballot submitted prior to the start of the regional tournament 27 3. Regional Coach of the Year a. Each region shall name its Regional Coach of the Year by the recommended date for conclusion of regional playoffs. The Regional Soccer Chair shall notify the National Soccer Chair of their selection immediately. C. Team Sportsmanship Award 1. Each team is awarded 20 points for receiving no cards in any match – regular season and post-season through regional’s. For each yellow card, two points is taken off. For a straight red 5 points is taken off. The card can be given to a player or someone on the bench. At the end of regional’s, the total number of points is divided by the total number of games played. The team with the highest average is awarded the All-Region Team Sportsmanship award. Any team in the region playing at least 13 matches and recording stats is eligible to receive the award. Team coaches will be responsible for submitting final averages. All teams vying for the award must have ALL games and averages to the region chair before the start of the regional tournament. V. UNIFORMS Competing teams shall have both light and dark uniforms for use in all championships. Choice of uniform shall be made by coaches with higher seeds having preference. VI. SCHOLAR-ATHLETE AWARD A completed nomination form (see National Handbook) must be sent to the National Men’s/Women’s Soccer Chair by November 1. VII. Less than five teams—Round Robin, seeding teams into single elimination. C. Matches—Best of 5 D. Court requirement—two courts are needed in order to host a regional tournament with five or more teams. E. Team Seeding—If two teams tie, go to head to head competition first, then go to number of sets played and then if necessary point spread. If there was still a tie, go to the national stat ranking between the schools. If there is a three way tie go to National Stat ranking immediately. III. Awards A. All-Regional Athletes 1. Team Members a. First Team shall be limited to 6 athletes. b. Second Team shall be limited to 6 athletes c. If a libero is selected within the top 7, the First Team shall consist of 7 athletes and the Second Team shall be reduced to 5. 2. Criteria a. Athletes must be a testimony for Christ in their everyday lives and on the court. b. Statistical information must be presented to demonstrate each athlete’s skill in the sport of volleyball. c. Miscellaneous items may be mentioned that may give further light to decisions on each athlete. B. Honorable Mention—Honorable mention awards are for athletes who have played with the respect of other athletes but are not selected for the All-Regional teams due to mitigating circumstances and/or a consensus of the coaches. C. Regional Player of the Year—The top ranked All-Regional athlete shall be named the Regional Player of the Year. Host team has the option of choosing the time they want to play only if they are the #1 seed, otherwise they play the late game. 31 C. Friday’s Final 4 game times are 5pm & 7pm. D. Championship game on Saturday is at 2pm. E. Tie Breaking System 1. Head to Head competition 2. Record versus descending order of final South Region standings. 3. Record versus all NCCAA Division II opponents. 4. Power rating. 5. Overall winning percentage. The host institutions for the South Region Tournament: Johnson University FL 2014 Piedmont International 2015 Trinity College 2016 Trinity Baptist 2017 Clearwater 2018 Pensacola 2019 If an institution declines to host the tournament then the next institution from the same geographical area (NORTH or SOUTH) will be offered the opportunity to host. The following Tournament proposal was voted in with 6 coaches voting yes, one voting no and one abstaining. 1. An Athletic Trainer must be available for all games, preferably 1 hour before each game. 2. There must be trained people doing statistics. There needs to be statistics available at half time and the end of each game. 3. Host institution provides game film to each school, every game. Each school needs to provide a camcorder to the host institution to film their game. 4. The host institution will provide a banquet on Wednesday evening for each institution. Each institution will pay $10.00 per person for the banquet. 5. All-Region, Academic All-Americans and Pete Marovich nominations will be announced at the banquet. 6. The Region Chair will e-mail the tournament brackets to every head basketball coach in the South Region that will include seedings, dates and times for each tournament game the Sunday before the Regional Tournament begins. 32 7. There will be an All Tournament Team (5) and a Tournament MVP selected. Only student-athletes from the final 4 teams will be selected for the All Tournament Team. There will be 1 student-athlete chosen by the coach of the teams that lose in the semi-finals and 2 student-athletes will be chosen from the teams that are in the Championship game. The team that wins the Championship will also have the Tournament MVP. 8. The host institution will communicate with the person that assigns officials for the tournament asking that person, if possible, to have officials that have not officiated any home games for the host institution during the season to officiate the tournament games. 9. If any of the guidelines are not met the institution will forfeit the right to host the tournament the next time they are scheduled to host the South Region Tournament. IV. AWARDS A. Each head coach will nominate players from his team and send them to the Regional Chair. Losing in overtime to any school that is in the 3 pt category (Keep in mind JV or Freshman teams do not count in any category) d. Overall record winning percentage for all games. 2. The tournament is single elimination. 3. The host team has the right to select its playing time as long as they are still officially in the tournament. 4. If there are six teams involved. a. In the first round of the tournament, the two highest rated teams would have a bye. The third ranked team will face the sixth ranked team, and the fourth ranked team would face the fifth ranked team. b. In the second round of the tournament, the winner between the number three ranked team and the number sixth ranked team would play the number two ranked team. The number one ranked team would then play the winner of the fourth ranked team and the fifth ranked team. c. In the third round of the tournament, the winners would play for the Championship. 5. If there are five teams involved. a. In the first round of the tournament, the fourth ranked team would play the fifth ranked team in a play-in game. b. In the second round of the tournament, the number one ranked team would face the winner of the first round game. The number two ranked team would play the number three ranked team. c. In the third round of the tournament, the winners would play for the Championship. 6. If there are four teams involved: a. In the first round of the tournament, the top ranked team would host the fourth ranked team and the second ranked team would face the third ranked team. b. To discuss any new business. III. Awards A. Player awards 1. Purpose: a. To honor those players that have participated on a higher level, both physically and spiritually. 2. Criteria: a. Christian character. b. Statistical information. 35 3. Voting: a. Each head coach or representative that is present is allowed to vote. b. Coaches will not be permitted to vote for a player that is on their team. 4. Regional Player of the year: a. The player receiving the most votes will be named regional player of the year. b. No player shall be eligible for this award if they only participate in one semester of the season. 5. First team All Region Team: a. The five players receiving the most votes will be named to the All-Region first team. b. No player shall be eligible for this award if they only participate in one semester of the season. 6. Second team All Region Team: a. The players receiving enough votes to place them in the top ten, yet not in the top five. b. Since no national recognition is attached to the second team if there is a tie in the voting and we find both players equally deserving we could recognize a sixth player. 7. Honorable mention Region team a. Any player that receives a vote will be recognized as a member of the honorable mention team. B. Coach’s Award 1. Purpose: a. To honor the coach that has been a good spiritual leader as well as a motivator. 2. Criteria: a. Christian character b. Best use of the talent that they work with. c. Over-all record 3. Voting: a. A vote of all of the coaches at the regional meeting will determine the winner of this award. 36 IV. Regional Sports Chair A. Eligibility 1. The nominee shall be coaching within the South Region for a period of two full seasons before becoming eligible. 2. The college that he/she currently works for shall be a current member of the N.C.C.A.A. and shall be in good standing for a period of two years prior to any nomination. 3. The nominee shall be judged by how he/she demonstrates their love for our Lord both on and off the court. 4. The nominee shall have shown a respect for the rules and regulations of the N.C.C.A.A. by his/her promptness in fulfilling all of his/her obligations. i.e. stats, dues, eligibility, etc. B. Nomination 1. Any coach meeting the criteria for eligibility may volunteer for the position. 2. Any coach meeting the criteria for eligibility may nominate any other coach that meets the criteria of eligibility. C. Selection 1. The nominee will be voted on and selected by a majority of the voting members present. D. Tenure 1. The sports chairperson is not limited by terms of office. He/she may remain in this position indefinitely. He/she may be removed from this position by a majority vote of the region coaches. a. If the resignation or termination of the sports chairperson occurs at the end of the regular season the voting for the new chairperson should take place at the region meeting. b. If the resignation or termination of the sports chairperson occurs during the season he/she shall appoint an interim. A new chairperson would be voted on at the region meeting. c. If the resignation or termination of the sports chairperson occurs between seasons he/she would have the responsibility of contacting each individual coach or a representative of each school represented in The South region. Within thirty days of the resignation or termination a vote shall be cast by each institution as to the replacement. d. The upcoming schedule for hosting the Region Tournament is as follows: 2007 – Clearwater, 2008 – Toccoa Falls, 2009 – Southeastern. b. The 2010 Region Tournament will be determined. Piedmont Baptist has expressed interest in hosting and a decision should be made at the next Region Meeting. c. If a team is scheduled to host a Region Tournament but drops out of the NCCAA II it is their responsibility to contact the Region Sport Chair and the Region Chair so that arrangements can be made to make the necessary changes as to who will host in the former school’s place. 5. Dates The dates for the Region Tournament will be determined by the dates of the National Tournament. The Region Final shall be played no later than two Saturdays before the NCCAA National Tournament. a. Upcoming schedule for dates of the Region Tournament. i. October 23-27, 2007 ii. October 28 – November 1, 2008 iii. October 27-31, 2009 b. If the NCCAA changes the dates for the National Tournament the Region will also alter its schedule so that teams will have almost two full weeks to prepare for the National Tournament. IV. Awards A. All-Region Team 1. Team members a. As per the requirements for NCCAA Division II there shall be 12 players on the first team. 1) One goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders, three forwards. 2) Two alternate players from any position of the field will make up the remaining two spots on the first team. 40 b. Criteria 1) Players should be of high character on and off the field. Players receiving red cards during the season will be discussed as to the manner they received this cards. 2) Coach’s endorsement is strongly suggested for each nominee. c. Voting 1) After a group of nominees for each position has been agreed upon by all coaches in attendance a vote will be taken and administered by the region chair. Results will be shared immediately. 2) Once the ten players have been selected the remainder of the nominees who did not get selected in the first phase of voting will be placed in a pool. Coaches will then vote and the top two receiving votes in this second phase will be placed on the first team. 2. Second Team a. All players that were nominated for first team will be strongly considered for the second team. b. Coaches will confer on the selection of the eleven players for the second team. c. No requirements for positions. Example: There does not have to be a goalkeeper on the second team. 3. Region Player of the Year a. The top ten players on the all region first team will be ranked by the coaches 1-10. Voting shall be 10 points for 1st, 9 points for 2nd, 8 points for third, and so on. The region chair will tabulate the results and the results will be shared immediately. Once the results are share a quick discussion by the coaches will follow. The regional chair shall be voted/decided on by the remaining coaches in the region. 2. Should two or more coaches volunteer, the coaches will determine the chair by a vote. D. Tenure—The regional chair shall serve for a period of two years. II. Regional Coaches Meeting A. Time—During the Regional Tournament at the end of each season. B. C. Discretionary Meeting—At the discretion of the Regional Volleyball Chair, an additional meeting may be called during the annual tip-off tournament. III. Regional Tournament A. Participating Teams—Only those who complete national statistics are eligible, as noted for national eligibility in the NCCAA II handbook. B. Format 1. Even number of teams participating (6 or greater)—Pool Play, seeding teams into single elimination. 2. Odd number of teams participating (5 or greater)—Double Elimination. 3. Less than five teams—Round Robin, seeding teams into single elimination. C. Matches—Best of 5 D. Court requirement—two courts are needed in order to host a regional tournament with five or more teams. 45 E. Team Seeding—If two teams tie, go to head to head competition first, then go to number of games played and then if necessary point spread. If there was still a tie, go to the national stat ranking between the schools. If there is a three way tie go to National Stat ranking immediately. IV. Awards A. All-Regional Athletes 1. Team Members a. First Team shall be limited to 6 athletes. b. Second Team shall be limited to 6 athletes c. If a libero is selected within the top 7, the First Team shall consist of 7 athletes and the Second Team shall be reduced to 5. 2. Criteria a. Athletes must be a testimony for Christ in their everyday lives and on the court. b. Statistical information must be presented to demonstrate each athlete’s skill in the sport of volleyball. c. Miscellaneous items may be mentioned that may give further light to decisions on each athlete. B. Honorable Mention—Honorable mention awards are for athletes who have played with the respect of other athletes but are not selected for the All-Regional teams due to mitigating circumstances and/or a consensus of the coaches. C. Regional Player of the Year—The top ranked All-Regional athlete shall be named the Regional Player of the Year. This athlete will be nominated at the national level for the National Player of the Year. 46 NCCAA South Region Baseball Handbook I. REGIONAL BASEBALL CHAIR A. Eligibility 1. Games - 1, 7 inning game; run rule applies- 10 runs after 5 innings; Courtesy runner for catcher and pitcher; Reentry rule for starters D. Team Seeding - Region tournament seeding will be determined by the NCCAA Burbridge rating method. E. Tie Breakers – 1) Head to Head Record, 2) Record vs. Higher or Lower Seed, 3) Run Differential, 4) Overall Record IV. AWARDS A. All Region Athletes 1. Team Members 47 a. The First Team will be made up of 16 student athletes. It will include 1 catcher, 4 infielders, 3 outfielders, 4 starting pitchers, 1 relief pitcher, and 3 utility players. The utility players will be listed by their positions, i.e. P/1B. b. There will be no Second Team. 2. Criteria a. Athletes must be a testimony for Christ in their everyday lives on and off the field (Per individual Coach’s recommendation). b. Statistical information must be presented to demonstrate each athlete’s ability and contribution to the sport of baseball. B. Region Player of the Year – Coaches may nominate an All Region player for Regional Player of the Year. If more than one player is nominated, the coaches will vote and the award will be given to the athlete with the most votes. This player will be nominated at the national level for National Player of the Year. C. Region Pitcher of the Year – Coaches may nominate an All Region pitcher for Regional Pitcher of the Year. If more than one pitcher is nominated, the coaches will vote and the award will be given to the athlete with the most votes. This pitcher will be nominated at the national level for National Pitcher of the Year. D. Freshman of the Year – Coaches may nominate a freshman for Regional Freshman of the Year. If more than one freshman is nominated, the coaches will vote and the award will be given to the athlete with the most votes. E. Coach of the Year- Coaches will take an anonymous ballot vote. They will circle their first choice and underline their second choice. Two points will be awarded for each circled name and one point will be awarded for each underlined name. The coach with the most points will be awarded Coach of the Year. This coach will be nominated at the national level for the National Coach of the Year. 48 NCCAA South Region Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Handbook I. ADMINISTRATIVE GUIDELINES FOR REGIONAL MEET A. Date and Site 1. The region meet will be held at Southern Wesleyan University as part of a larger invitational meet hosted by Southern Wesleyan University. Any interested region teams should contact Southern Wesleyan. 2. Date for the meet is September 24, 2011 B. Eligibility 1. An affidavit of eligibility (NCCAA Official Eligibility Certificate) must be on file with the Regional Chair and must be postmarked prior to the date of the first competition. 2. Regional dues must be paid prior to September 30. 3. Entry fees shall be determined by the host school C. Structure/Scoring 1. Only those teams with five runners finishing shall have a team score recorded. The team score shall then be determined by totaling the points scored by the first five runners of each team to finish. The team scoring the least number of points shall be declared the region champion. 2. Although the sixth and seventh runners of a team do not score points towards their team’s total, their places, if better than those of any of the first five of an opposing team, serve the increase the team score of the opponents. If less than five finish, the places of all members of that team shall be disregarded. D. Host’s Responsibilities 1. Inform participating teams of the following: a. Schedule of meet b. Scholar-Athlete All forms must be sent to the National Chair one week prior to the National Championship The nominated student-athlete must: 1. Be a junior or senior academically (a minimum of 72 semester hours or equivalent) and have been at the nominating institution for at least one full term. 2. Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.4 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent for all terms completed at the time of nomination. 3. Be a member of the varsity golf team and have at least two years varsity competition at the collegiate level. 4. Be of high Christian character, in good standing at the nominating institution and certified by the head coach. 51 NCCAA South Region Softball Bylaws I. Region Softball Chair A. Eligibility 1. A coach must participate in the NCCAA II South Region for a period of not less than two years. 2. A coach must exemplify the ideals of the NCCAA with respect to the coaching of his team and his reporting of eligibility for his team. B. Nomination 1. The regional chair can either volunteer or be voted on by the region coaches after a nominating process at the region coaches meeting. 2. If no coach meets the eligibility requirements, the acting chair may nominate an incumbent chair, subject to the acceptance of the nominee. C. Selection 1. The regional chair shall be voted/decided on by the remaining coaches in the region. 2. If two or more coaches volunteer or are nominated, the coaches will determine the chair by a vote. D. Tenure -- The regional chair shall serve for a period of three years. II. Region Coaches Meeting A. Time – During the Regional Tournament at a location to be determined by the host institution. B. Purpose – Discuss and vote on issues relating to: 1. All-Region Athletes and Player of the Year 2. Coach of the Year 3. Region matters/decisions 4. National Matters with the requested input from the national chair or national office. III. Region Tournament A. Participating Teams 1. Teams must be eligible as per the NCCAA Handbook relating to the reporting of statistics. B. Format: The tournament will be double elimination format with the teams being seeding per the last NCCAA National Rankings. The format may be changed if it cannot be completed due to unforeseen circumstances and all coach’ present agree. C. Hosting 1. The host will be determined by the region rotation. D. Dates 1. The dates for the Region Tournament will be determined by the dates of the National Tournament. The Region Final shall be played two Saturdays before the NCCAA National Tournament. 52 2. If the NCCAA changes the dates for the National Tournament the Region will also alter its schedule so that teams will have almost two full weeks to prepare for the National Tournament. IV. Awards A. All-Region Team 1. Team members a. There will be an 18 member All-region team nominated and selected by the coach’s at the region tournament each year. b. Criteria: Players will be selected on their performance during the season and commitment to the ideals of the NCCAA c. Voting: Selection to the team will be by popular vote of all coach’s present at the meeting. Region Player of the year: The region players of the year will be selected from the 18 member All-Region team using the same process. 53 NCCAA Men’s and Women’s Tennis South Region Handbook I. Coach of the Year 3. Region matters/decisions 4. National Matters with the requested input from the national chair or national office. III. Region Tournament A. Participating Teams 1. Teams must be eligible as per the NCCAA Handbook relating to the reporting of statistics. 2. B. Teams must complete a Declaration of Intent to Participate Form. Format 1. If only two teams participate in the region, they will play as dual match to determine the region champion 2. If three or more teams participate in the region, a round robin format will be used so each team will guarantee at least two matches at the tournament. If there is only one pool up to 5 teams, the team with the best record will crown as the regional champion. If there are 6 teams, then two pools of three teams will form base upon the determined seating, the top team from each pool will play the 54 championship match to determine the region winner. If there is a tie in record after pool plays, the following tie-breaker will be used: a. Head-to-head b. Total matches won c. Total sets won d. Total games won IV. Awards A. All-Region Team 1. If only two institutions are participating then the top six singles players and top three doubles teams from South region who receive the most votes at the National tournament will be named 1st team members. 2. If three or more institutions are participating then the region chair will take the nominations at the region coaches meeting before the tournament and put together a ballot for the coaches to vote. All ballots will need to return to the region chair in the morning of the last day of the tournament. Top six singles and top three doubles teams that receive the most votes at the region tournament will be named 1st team members. B. Coach of the Year This award shall be presented at the conclusion of the Regional Tennis Championship to the coach of the championship team. This award may be withheld by the Region Chair, in consultation with tennis officers and a member of the National Office staff, if a coach has acted in an unsportsmanlike way, or has failed to deal with offensive player behavior. 55
