GARDEN & GUN CAPITALIZES ON ITS GROWING READER BASE BY
EXPANDING THE SALES TEAM TO THE WEST COAST
January 31, 2013 (CHARLESTON, SC)—Garden & Gun’s Vice President and Publisher,
Barbara Bing, announced today the expansion of the national sales team to the West
Coast. In an effort to continue to capitalize on the growing reader base of the magazine,
Bing has chosen William G. Smith of Smith Media Sales out of San Francisco to
represent the magazine.
“As we find that our brand is resonating across the country, it is people like Bill Smith
that are perfectly positioned to leverage this momentum. Coming from the South, but
having lived in California for the past twenty years gives Bill the unique position of
understanding how our brand is perceived in other parts of the country. This will be
invaluable insight for us as we forge new relationships,” said Bing.
Smith has been in the print industry for thirty-five years and has worked both internally
as well as externally with venerable Time Inc. publications such as Southern Living,
Sunset, LIFE, Golf Magazine, and This Old House.
“I was introduced to Garden & Gun several years ago. What I have been most impressed
with is the consistency of the quality of its content. They hire talented writers and
photographers and it shows. In addition, the magazine’s engagement with its readers is
unusual in this environment. The magazine clearly resonates well beyond Southern
geography and I find that development quite exciting,” said Smith.
Garden & Gun will turn six years old in 2013 and has continued to see a steady rise in
both newsstand sales as well as advertising revenue. The brand continues to diversify
with a new tablet version of the magazine that is set to launch in June of this year as well
as the fall launch of the first of three books expected from HarperCollins.
Garden & Gun is an award-winning national magazine that covers the best of the South,
including the sporting culture, the food, the music, the art, the literature, the people and
their ideas. With an audience of 742,000 passionate and engaged readers, the magazine
has won numerous awards for its journalism, design, and overall excellence.
