1. This project is a three-year research project
aimed to develop a novel Double-Roll Duplex
(DRD) generating cutting method for spiral
bevel and hypoid gears. The machine setting in
the up-roll and down-roll can be different to
fine tune the meshing characteristics of mating

gear set. The topography of tooth flank is
checked on a CNC gear measuring center to
verify the accuracy of the proposed machine
setting of cutting. The contact pattern and
motion curve will be checked on a single-flank
test machine to verify the result of tooth
contact analysis.
2. This project will develop a fully CNC gear
generating grinding machine. The major
research topics include (1) Determination of
machine settings of the gear generating
grinder, (2) Development of modification of
gear flank, (3) Development of the human
machine interface. By integrating
above-mentioned programs and generating
grinding knowledge database, the machine has
many advantages, for multi-functions, high
accuracy, intelligence and so on.
