Activity report – Graduate School of the College of Business and Law 2011 - 2012 Since the creation of the Graduate School in January 2011, the following activities have been undertaken: Survey of CB&L staff on research supervision (March 2011) – report circulated to staff Survey of CB&L Staff on access to research funding (May 2011) - report circulated to staff Round table event on Research Supervision (June 2011) – Notes circulated to staff Round table event on Access to Funding (September 2011) – Notes circulated to staff Creation of three support schemes for conference travel support to early career staff (scheme 1) and to PhD students (scheme 2) and to support the invitation of internationally recognised speakers on research (scheme 3). Over 65 paper presentations supported to date and over 10 event supported. Seminar series – the following seminars have been organised: o Preparing the viva voce (March 25th, 2011) o The academic career (June 3rd, 2011) o CB&L Induction seminar 2011 / 2012 in-coming graduate students (October 6th, 2011) o Critical Realist Information Systems Research in Action by Prof. Sven Carlsson (Lund University, Sweden) , November 4th, 2011. o Writing the literature review (December 2nd, 2011) o Supervising PhD Research – Experiences from Australia, by Prof. Graeme Shanks (University of Melbourne, Australia). Week beginning June 18th. o Blog mining-review and extensions: “From each according to his opinion”, by Prof. Daniel O’Leary, Marshall School of Business, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, United States o Induction seminar 2012 / 2013 graduate students (October 5th, 2012) o Preparing the viva voce (November 1st, 2012) o IRCHSS funding workshop (December 12th, 2012) o o Comparing in research, by Prof. Paddy O’Donovan (UCC).
