The Principles of Evolution Foldable
http://science.howstuffworks.com/life/evolution/evolution1.htm
Today you are going to explore the main principles of evolution and construct a foldable to
represent these important ideas.
1. Genetic Variety
-DNA mutation adds new phenotypes of a population
-Genetic recombination (crossing over) allows for
various phenotypes
Outside
2. Mutation and Environment
-New phenotype either fits or doesn’t fit with the
environment
-Those that “fit” best are more likely to survive and
reproduce (natural selection)
3. New Species Evolve
-Mutations (1) + natural selection (2) results in new
species over millions of years
You have three big ideas that are bolded and underlined
above. Follow the steps below to complete this task.
Step 1. Get a colored piece of paper
Step 2. Fold the paper in half “hamburger style,” but leave
some paper at the end.
Step 3. Cut three flaps.
Step 4. Label each flap the bolded/underlined
words above.
Step 5. Write a title on your foldable called
“Principles of Evolution”
Step 6. Fill the inside of the foldable with the
information about each title (on the right)
Step 7. Draw a picture to represent the concept.
-You can use colors, pencil, or pen
Step 8. Tape into notebook
