This is a four-and-a-half month position beginning on August 8, 2016 and ending on December 16, 2016. Please

include examples of research on girls’ education, inclusion of gender equity, gender-based violence,
gender-focused community development, and other related topics as relevant.
5. If you were selected as an Echidna Global Scholar, how do you think this opportunity would contribute
to your home institution and your community?
6. Describe the resources and/or infrastructure that will be available to you at your home country upon
completion of the program in order for you to execute the research you will be planning while at
Brookings.
Research Project Proposal
Research proposals should reflect the logic behind research objectives, the relevance of the research to the
broader conversation about girls’ education, and the feasibility of and commitment to continuing and building
on that work upon returning to home institutions. Please reference the “second generation” girls’ education
issues and discuss how the proposed research relates to the issues described. Proposals should be no more
than 10 pages; proposals will be evaluated on merit, not length.
Proposals should include the following elements:
 Introduction – introduction to topic providing a targeted, concise statement to address focus of research
 Executive summary – brief layout of the work, rationale for importance of this research scope including
how your research study impacts girls
 Statement of the problem – layout of the current education situation and barriers in your context (socioeconomic, cultural, political, environmental, etc.)
 Objectives of the Study – intentions for study, desired outcomes, and hypotheses
 Study Context – target group(s), location, environment
 Methodology – research practices used to execute and implement this work
 Timeline – plan and timeframe for research
 Policy Impact— description of how your research lead to expansion of these types of programs in your
context
 Implications and rationale – explanation of how this research fits into a greater discussion and analysis
on the issue as well as CUE’s research, commitment to this issue upon return home

the program as an Echidna scholar, and that members of my immediate family who might accompany me to
participate in this program are not covered under program expenses. I understand that the Echidna Program

Interview Process: The interview process includes a series of phone interviews with CUE leadership. Final
candidates will receive a CUE team member in their home countries for a short site-visit and series of
discussions to determine potential impact of research.
