The University of Southern Mississippi Assistant Professor of Mathematics (Licensure) The University of Southern Mississippi invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track faculty position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics in the College of Science and Technology to begin in August 2016. The position is dedicated to teaching and advising of teacher candidates in the department’s Mathematics Licensure program and to research in mathematics education. A doctorate in Mathematics Education with 18 graduate hours in Mathematics, or a Doctorate in Mathematics, Statistics or Computational Mathematics with substantial work experience in mathematics education is required by the start of the appointment. Moreover, the position requires at least three years of teaching or appropriate professional experience with K-12 students. The successful candidate must be able to engage in effective teaching and research. Responsibilities include teaching courses in mathematics, including teacher-oriented courses in the areas of algebra, problem solving, and geometry; advising students seeking certification in secondary education through the department’s Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with Licensure; teaching and mentoring students in M.S. and Ph.D. Mathematics Education programs through the Center for Science and Mathematics Education; and being active in theoretical and/or applied research related to the teaching and learning of mathematics is essential, as is the generation of competitive grant proposals. A teaching load of 2-3 courses per semester is to be expected, with the course load not exceeding 2 courses per semester in the first 3 years. Participation in collaborative research proposals and projects across departmental, discipline and college boundaries with private, state and federal funding entities is expected.
