Job Purpose:
To assist the Scotland 7s Clinical Manager in the provision of high quality physiotherapy care to Scotland 7s. To
deputise for the Clinical Manager in their absence or with squad players not on Tour.
To provide high quality physiotherapy services as required to the Performance teams of Scottish Rugby upon
selection and when able.

To advise, liaise and work closely with the Scotland 7s Clinical Manager and Pro-Team Team working
Coaches, and Scottish Rugby Medical and S&C Teams regarding player injury status
Planning and Organising
and prognosis, in accordance with players’ confidentiality agreement, to provide the
highest quality care to injured players, including completion of online Injury Reports. Effective Communication
To maintain, and store securely, confidential medical and physiotherapy records and
information (including player injuries, summaries of on-field assessments and
treatments, off field treatment and recommendations for continuing care and
rehabilitation on appropriate paperwork) on behalf of Scottish Rugby with regards to
the Core Standards of Physiotherapy Practice (CSP) and Scottish Rugby Policy.
To adhere to, and uphold, all Scottish Rugby Policies relevant to this post whilst
advocating highest Professional Standards and seeking these at all times, in
accordance with your professional registration as a Chartered Physiotherapist.
To liaise with national, regional and club medical colleagues to ensure ongoing
continuity of care regarding injury issues related to training, play and return to play
when the player is training off-site, or in your absence.

level of support and advice to facilitate the optimum recovery from injury

To provide on-pitch and pitch-side Physiotherapy and Advanced Trauma/First Aid
care for all/any Scotland 7s Players during relevant matches to which you are asked
to cover, within the rules of the Tournament in which the match occurs; to advise of
suitability to continue to play or need for removal from play in the most appropriate
manner whilst facilitating either/both.
To ensure confidentiality of medical information in accordance with details specified
in each player’s Confidentiality Agreement Consent Form, following Professional
Standards for Data Protection and Confidentiality by the CSP and HPC.
To partake in any Scottish Rugby-involved Research studies of your player group, as
guided by the Head of Performance Medical or Clinical Manager, Scotland 7s.
To maintain appropriate Professional Indemnity Insurance, either from the CSP or
independently.
To work with the Squad Doctor to assess players fitness, including pre-contract
medical assessments when requested.
To manage any/all Physiotherapy equipment with care, and use within Health and
Safety guidelines or best practice.
To actively participate in Scottish Rugby and external Continuing Professional
Development opportunities to strive for achieving and promoting excellence of care
for your players.
To assist in the management and packing of medical supplies and stock for training
and matches for Scotland 7s.

Responsible for the gathering and transportation of medical stock for the Scotland 7s
squad.
Responsible for the creation and storage of appropriate physiotherapy/medical records in
line with Scottish Rugby and professional governing body standards.
Working
Environment:
The management aspect of this post involves mostly desk work.
The clinical aspect of this post involves significant periods of direct provision of
Physiotherapy indoors and outdoors, pitch-side and on-pitch work in front of large
crowds, on television and in foreign, hotel, stadia, and other related environments.
This can involve exposure to any/all weather including snow, ice, rain, sunshine, humidity,
etc, and related issues such as biting insects accordingly. This post is also required to deal
with exposure to, and the management of, hazardous substances such as body fluids
(blood, saliva, infectious matter/clinical waste) through wound management and
treatment, and the safe application and delivery of electrophysical agents such as
therapeutic ultrasound and TENS as part of the role of Physiotherapists.
Long distance international and domestic travel may be a component of this post.
Physical aspects of
role:
The management of medical stock for the Scotland 7s team, including lifting and moving,
storing, packing into transportable containers in conjunction with the Lead
Physiotherapist.
The clinical aspect of this role requires standing pitch-side in attendance of training,
running into the field of play or training as quickly as possible, the manual stabilisation
and evacuation (lifting) of players from the field of training/play when required. This also
requires the application on a daily basis of Physical Massage, Mobilisation and
Manipulation techniques to parts of the human body, which can entail maximal effort in
supporting/applying such treatments, and the actual demonstration of exercise technique
involved in rehabilitation programmes.

Contributes to the Physiotherapy Service to the Scotland 7s team and therefore
contributes significantly to the success of this team within Scottish Rugby.
The post-holder is directly responsible for the health and fitness of the members of the
Scotland 7s Team. This post requires a Chartered Physiotherapist who must accordingly
carry their own Professional Indemnity Insurance in case of any medicolegal issue arising
from the Physiotherapy role being undertaken.
There is direct high profile public scrutiny of this posts role with the Scotland 7s Team
through large public crowds and television coverage, and through liaison with the
Scotland 7s Medical and Media Officers is responsible for the release of suitable
confidential medical information into the public domain.

Responsible for upholding personal Physiotherapy Professional Standards on behalf of Scotland 7s.
