Postdoctoral Researchers – Stem Cell Biology (2)
Regenerative Medicine Institute
NUIG Ref. 70 - 11
The Regenerative Medicine Institute (REMEDI) is a Science Foundation Ireland-funded
biomedical research centre with a primary goal of studying stem cell biology and translating
these findings to new regenerative therapies for human disease. REMEDI is a partnership of
scientists, clinicians, and engineers and it is housed at the National Centre for Biomedical
Engineering Science (NCBES) at NUI Galway, NUI Maynooth and University College Cork.
To support the REMEDI research programme, we are seeking two postdoctoral scientists to join
a new research group on fundamental stem cell biology. The group is deriving iPS cells from
patients and healthy donors, developing differentiation assays and characterising neuronal
phenotypes, developing artificial chromosomes, investigating genetics of schizophrenia,
generating and characterizing novel cellular and preclinical models. The two post holders are
expected to lead scientific research in some of these projects. Highly motivated candidates with
stem cell biology and other relevant experience are invited to apply.
The duration of the posts will be for 24 and 36 months, respectively, dependent on progress.
A PhD in mammalian cell biology, neuroscience/neuropathology, molecular genetics or
chromosomal biology is required. Highly motivated individuals with publication(s) and experience
in stem cell culture, artificial chromosomes, neuroanatomy, or genetic modelling are
advantageous. The post holders are expected to work in a team and to participate in supervision
of junior group members.
Salary Scale: €38,286 per annum.
Further information about REMEDI is available at http://www.remedi.ie; Informal contacts
concerning the posts may be made to Prof Sanbing Shen: sanbing.shen@nuigalway.ie
