Research Associate / Project Manager – REDDSTAR project REMEDI Ref. No: NUIG-109-12 Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a part-time fixed term position as a Research Associate / Project Manager with the Regenerative Medicine Institute (REMEDI) at the National University of Ireland, Galway. This position is funded by the European Union and is available from February 1st 2013. REMEDI is a Science Foundation Ireland-funded biomedical research centre with a primary goal of studying stem cell biology and translating these findings to new regenerative therapies for human disease. REMEDI is a partnership of scientists, clinicians, and engineers and it is housed at the National Centre for Biomedical Engineering Science (NCBES) at NUI Galway. REDDSTAR is an EU-funded project which will develop and test stromal cell therapy to treat for diabetes mellitus. The objective is to control blood glucose while also addressing a range of diabetic complications. The REDDSTAR consortium is a network of ten diabetes specialists, regenerative medicine researchers, biotech industrialists and clinicians. Job Description: The successful candidate will be responsible for overall coordination, under the direction of the PI, of the REDDSTAR project, including management of the NUI Galway part of the project. This will include research, compiling and preparing project reports, ensuring project milestones and deliverables are met, harmonising research protocols between partners and financial management of the project. The post will also involve organising project meetings and liaising with relevant offices both internal and external to NUI Galway. Qualifications: The ideal candidate should have a degree in a relevant science area and proven project management skills. A track record in managing large scale consortia in a research and development environment and some financial management experience is essential. Applicants must have good language and communication skills and work well as part of a team. A high degree of computer literacy is also essential. A PhD in a related area and some experience of research and management of European projects would be a distinct advantage. Salary: €38,286 – €46,390 per annum, pro-rata for this part-time (50%) post.
