Dear Pupils, Parents & Friends,
Lay-by & Road Closures
Unfortunately the current road closures are causing some of the Bishop Rawstorne buses to be later than usual. To ensure
everyone’s safety we ask that parents avoid parking/dropping off in or near the gated area as this prevents late buses from
entering the lay-by. Also, we ask that parents avoid double-parking, which again prevents the free-flow of late buses through
the lay-by. Thank you, in anticipation of your additional co-operation during the road-closure period.
Message from Janet Maggs:
Did you know?..There are some local charities set up to help local people. They are historic bequests from local families in
past centuries to help their future neighbours.
The Layfield Trust is one fund which is managed through St Michael’s Church- Rev David Reynolds has more information.
Trinity Methodist Church also has an emergency fund. Another fund is Croston United Charities which is best known for
running the almshouses but is also able to help others who have a ‘strong connection’ with the area. The fund is not large and
is meant for one-off payments to ease residents in difficulty.
For more information please contact Janet Maggs (01772 603336). Don’t forget to remind your friends if you see they are
struggling.
The ‘Allergy & Free From Show North’- 26-27th October 2013-BT Convention Centre, Liverpool
An increasing number of people have their lives affected by allergies, food intolerances, coeliac disease, hay fever, IBS,
eczema, asthma and other related conditions. This event may provide some solutions to make life easier. We do have a
limited number of free tickets in school, free tickets are also available via the following website:
www.allergyshow.co.uk/go/schools
Parents’ Evening Tues 8th/Wed 9th October (separate letter enclosed)
Please ensure that appointment slips are returned by next Wednesday, 2 nd October, so that confirmation of appointment times
can be issued next Thursday. Parents’ Evenings have been scheduled earlier this year so that discussion can take place with
regard to how your child has settled into their new class and also to share the children’s initial targets.
Y3
We continue to be grateful to Mr Mawson for leading learning and teaching so well in Y3 in the absence of Mrs Kirkman. Mrs
Kirkman returns to the doctor on Thursday (3/10), and will then confirm whether she will be returning to school. Mr Mawson
will lead the Y3 Parents’ Evening whether or not Mrs Kirkman has returned to school as he is obviously currently more
informed with regard to the children’s start in Y3 and their next learning objectives.
Enrichment Activities
We are delighted with the response to our programme of activities for the term. Please find enclosed notification confirming
whether or not it has been possible to accommodate your child with their chosen session(s).
Unfortunately it has not been possible to accommodate Y2 requests for rugby or Y3 requests for football on this occasion due
to the necessity to keep numbers to a level which ensures everyone’s safety and also ensure quality sessions. With two
members of staff willing to lead each session, however, we are pleased to confirm that it has been possible to accommodate
all requests from the higher age groups.
In view of the overwhelming demand we intend to organise external coaching (using Youth Sports Trust Funding) to provide
additional after school sessions during the Spring and Summer Terms for Y2 & Y3. Sports Trust Funding has been utilised this
term to provide tennis coaching to Y1 & Y2 and Fencing Coaching for Y5 & Y6 during PE curriculum time.
Our thanks go to all staff for their willingness to provide their time and expertise which enables us to run such an extensive
programme of enrichment activities.
Speaking of enrichment.........what a fantastic time was had by all at Winmarleigh Adventure Centre last week! Thanks go to
our Y6 pupils for being such fantastic ambassadors for the school and also to Mr Hughes, Mrs Mee and Mrs Chadwick for
accompanying the children on their week of adventure. The team are keen to feedback and share photos with us all in the
KS2 achievement assembly on 17th October- do join us if you can at 2.45pm.
Ecumenical Family Harvest Service at St Michael’s Church- Sun 6th October 9.15am
Y4 will represent school in this family service, we hope that many families will be able to join us for this special event.
Yours sincerely
