DEGREE PLAN CHANGE TO FOREIGN LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT FOR ENGLISH MAJORS
The English department is committed to supporting all Texas A&M University-Central Texas students. As
part of that commitment, we have developed a track in linguistics to help those students who have not
completed their foreign language requirement for their majors.
Students seeking the BA n English without certification can now take six hours in linguistics in lieu of
their six hours of sophomore-level foreign language. The purpose of this change is to provide students
with a working knowledge of what language is, what its role in society is, and how to use a knowledge of
language to their benefit in the workplace and in social interactions.
Students wanting to satisfy their second year of foreign language can do so by taking two of the
following in the next academic year: ENGL 486-Psycholinguitics this summer; ENGL 486-Sociolinguistics
this fall; or, ENGL 370-Introduction to Linguistics this spring.
As always, if you run into trouble registering for these or any other ENGL courses, please contact Dr.
Redmon (allen.redmon@ct.tamus.edu) for an override.
