No. NUIG 159-15 Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a fixed-term contract position as a Clinical Research Associate/Nurse– Oncology Research. This position will be funded by the Cancer Clinical Trial Unit (CTU), Galway University Hospital. The position is available immediately and the contract duration is for one year initially with potential for renewal. Over the next year there will be numerous Oncology Clinical Trials being undertaken in the Cancer Clinical Trial Unit in collaboration with the CRFG. The Clinical Research Associate/Nurse will play a pivotal role in the institution, recruitment, co-ordination and management of the different aspects of the Oncology Clinical Trials. Purpose of Post The successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary team who engage with researchers and clinicians to support patient-focused clinical research studies and audit activities in oncology clinical trials. They will contribute to both individual and/or collaborative research projects in the clinical setting. The Clinical Research Associate/Nurse will work under the direction of the Director of the HRB Clinical Research Facility, Galway and the Director of the Cancer Clinical Trial Unit. Within the remit of this post, the successful individual will have responsibility for a caseload of oncology patients on clinical trials and research projects. The individual will be expected to lead, under the direction of the CRFG on areas such as individual research projects, engage in nurse-led research, audit and education, contribute to papers that arise from the studies undertaken, and attend relevant national and international meetings. The Clinical Research Associate/Nurse will be an integral part of cancer clinical research at Galway University Hospitals including coordination of oncology patient care and recruitment of oncology patients into clinical studies. They will be expected to keep up to date with research related methods and techniques, in particular, developments in the oncology research area. Essential: Candidates must be registered or be eligible to register in the General Division of the register The clinical and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role. Ability to perform Clinical Patient Assessment An understanding of Research and the Research process Desirable: An oncology nursing qualification Experience of working in an Irish hospital is an advantage. Have knowledge and understanding of the policy, practise and procedures relevant to the role including HSE, Saolta and University Policies. Have knowledge and understanding of ICH-GCP, Research Ethics and Regulatory Requirements. Key Competencies/skills required for post include; Planning and Organising Patient/Customer Focus Communication and Interpersonal Skills Leadership Evidence of computer skills including, word, excel, PowerPoint, email, the internet as a research tool, the use of audit tools and familiarity with the integrated Clinical Information Systems utilised by various departments in the hospital Dissemination of research, impact, influence and engagement. Management of own personal and research resources as appropriate. Responsible for data, archiving procedure and security, including legal requirements regarding data protection and confidentiality data protection requirements. Able to effectively plan research and estimate timelines and resources required to complete it, and deliver on schedule under the supervision of the PI.
