SAVE THE CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS ROLE PROFILE TITLE : Pharmacy Manager, Ebola Treatment Centre TEAM/PROGRAMME: Health LOCATION: Freetown GRADE: TBC CONTRACT LENGTH: TBC CHILD SAFEGUARDING: Level 3: the role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff. ROLE PURPOSE: The Pharmacy Manager is responsible for the pharmacy set up and management to ensure that patients admitted to the Ebola Treatment Centre have uninterrupted access to appropriate drugs and medical supplies, and that staff have access to infection control materials. SCOPE OF ROLE: Reports to: Medical Team Leader; dotted line to Pharmacy Adviser Staff directly reporting to this post: Pharmacy assistants (about 2-4) KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: Set up the pharmacy initially, optimising medicine storage conditions and organization to ensure safety and effectiveness of drugs and medical supplies. Hire and train national pharmacy staff Implement a drug management system including drug flow, consumption reporting, buffer stocks, alert levels, early international and local orders to avoid stock outs Prepare drugs for use in the patient areas – to be provided to staff on their entry to the centre. Ensure all pharmacy staff understand principles of patient care and infection control and the importance of supporting team members to ensure safety. Ensure that prescription, administration, cold chain management, control drug management and disposal are according to drug management guidelines. Liaise with health and logistics teams to support good communication and effective planning to prevent stock-outs. Ensure daily/weekly consumption reports, stock checks and supply requests and cold chain monitoring. Prepare international and national orders, to be signed off by Medical Team Leader. Provide training on drug management to national pharmacy staff and clinical staff. Raise issues of concern on poor practice and key risks to Medical Team Lead. Previous experience of working in a hospital isolation unit, strong understanding of infection control risks. Previous experience working within health facilities in low income countries. Previous experience of working in stressful situations. Ability to motivate and support team in stressful situations. Strong communication skills. Experience of working in a multidisciplinary, multi-cultural team. Excellent fluency in English including pharmaceutical terminology. Desirable Previous experience and knowledge of West Africa.
