HUNTER LEWIS NAMED EXECUTIVE EDITOR OF SOUTHERN LIVING --- North Carolina Native to Lead Food Coverage and Manage Test Kitchen Staff at the Nation’s Seventh-Largest Monthly Paid Consumer Magazine New York, NY – August 2, 2012 – Hunter Lewis has been named Executive Editor of Southern Living, it was announced today by M. Lindsay Bierman, Editor-in-Chief of Southern Living. Lewis will oversee the brand’s extensive food content in print and online and manage the Test Kitchen staff, which tests 6,000 recipes annually and publishes between 40 and 140 each issue. Lewis will also collaborate with Oxmoor House on the development and execution of the brand’s many cookbooks. He will be based in Birmingham, AL and will report directly to Bierman. Lewis will assume his new role on September 10. Lewis comes to Southern Living from Bon Appétit, where he was Food Editor since January 2011. He developed, edited, and supervised recipe testing for the print, online, and tablet editions, wrote regular food features, and hosted online cooking videos. Prior to that, Lewis was Kitchen Director at Saveur from February 2008 to December 2010. He also researched for The Lee Bros. Southern Cookbook and cooked in restaurants from New York City to Sonoma County. “Hunter's talents as a storyteller, food stylist, editor, and cook will help us build on the excitement of today's Southern food movement," said Bierman. "There’s also no doubt that his hands-on expertise with recipe development will make the hundreds of dishes we publish each year taste that much better." This move represents a return to the South for Lewis. A North Carolina native and graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Lewis began his career as a reporter at the Herald-Sun in Durham. Single copy sales for Southern Living increased 6.5% in 1H12 vs. 1H11, according to ABC Rapid Report.
