JOB DESCRIPTION Summary of the Position and Responsibilities The Special Needs– Learning Support Teacher is accountable to the Director of Student Diversity for the development and delivery of individualised learning programmes for students across the learning spectrum. The teacher has responsibility for the development of both stand-alone programmes and also for working with teachers to coordinate flexible delivery options for students. The Special Needs – Learning Support Teacher is required to promote and support a positive organisational culture by maintaining effective working relationships and communicating effectively with employees, students, parents and visitors. Working Relationships (context of operations) The Special Needs – Learning Support teacher is responsible to the Director of Student Diversity and is required to work collaboratively and consultatively with Heads of School, classroom teachers, parents, external agencies and other professional to deliver the required educational outcomes for our students. Special Conditions This is a replacement contract position for Semester 1 of the 2016 academic year. Statement of Key Outcomes and Associated Activities The Special Needs – Learning Support Teacher is required to deliver outcomes in the following areas: Facilitate the provision of learning and teaching programs for students across the learning needs spectrum in collaboration and consultation with Heads of School, Director of Student Diversity, classroom teachers, parents, external agencies and other professionals. Advise and assist classroom teachers to plan individualised programmes and curricula based on the identified needs of students. Coordinate the integration of identified students into the regular classroom by working directly with students in both the classroom and within the Student Diversity Centre, on an individual or small group basis. Select, purchase and effectively deploy specialised resources which offer appropriate support to identified students. Demonstrate a commitment to the Student Diversity area through involvement and maintenance of current knowledge of trends and practice in Adaptive Education and related learning programmes. Manage and understand administrative guidelines and procedures, including relevant testing, for student selection and regular monitoring of their progress. Address the requirement for individualised support programmes in consultation with teaching staff. Undertake appropriate parent liaison and communication about the identification, progress and achievements of students. Ensure the successful integration of new students in programme. Cooperate with Learning and Teaching leaders in planning and developing the full range of learning activities across all subject areas. Report on student performance in relation to progress in individualised and support programmes as required. As required provide support to other Student Diversity staff in the involvement of students in a range of enrichment and extension programmes in the College, in cluster programmes and competitions as appropriate. Work collaboratively with the Student Diversity Team and meet the educational needs of students including formal documentation and the maintenance of administrative records. Liaise with families as needed. EMPLOYEE SPECIFICATION - Essential Characteristics Educational and Vocational Qualifications Degree and graduate qualification in education or related discipline Formal training and/or qualifications in Special Education Registration as a teacher, or able to be registered as a teacher in South Australia Personal Skills and Abilities Demonstrated commitment to the Christian aims of the College and a willingness to develop these aims through leadership of the curriculum area Demonstrated ability to document, implement and monitor administrative procedures including the review and monitoring of student progress Demonstrated high level skills in establishing effective working relationships with staff, students and parents Highly developed oral and written communication skills Demonstrated ability to provide feedback to other staff about the achievement of goals Demonstrated ability to work with a team in developing, establishing, implementing and monitoring a learning needs curriculum and initiating and managing specialised programs Knowledge An understanding of current practices and underlying theory in supporting students with a range of learning needs.
