Joshua Munoz 12/1/13 Helping Homeless for the Holidays The holidays are a great time to spend it with family and friends. Receiving gifts and also giving as well. Well this Thanksgiving a person received a present like any other, a home. Roger Anderson, 47, has been homeless for over 30 years. He ran away from his home because he was abused by his father. Throughout those years he has sheltering himself by 110 Freeway in bushes and bridges. An organization called Joshua House Community Health Center helped him find an apartment where he can move into. The story has very deep meaning and uses ASGL’s GPOs. The first GPO that is used is Investigate the World. The story demonstrates it by showing a world problem, Homelessness. The photographer must have really thought of a great problem that is happening not in America but the World. An estimated 100 Million people are homeless in the world, stated by Homeless World Cup. This problem is very important to our society because if it continues to grow we will have streets full of homeless people. Another GPO shown is Take Action. The organization, Joshua House Community Health Center, really showed how to take action. Joshua House Community Health Center is an organization that deals with health care, public housing, and community health. In one of the pictures Roger is expressing his happiness because that organization helped him find a home. This organization helps many people just like Roger to find homes and personal care. The photos had a great use of Recognizing Perspectives. There were a couple of photos that show Roger when he was in the streets of downtown LA. One of the pictures that stood out to me was the one that showed him looking for his belongings in the bushes. In the caption, it stated he hid it because a brawl he had with a fellow homeless person. Another photo that really hit was his expression when he received gift cards and a new flat screen TV. Yes a flat screen TV. The photos really showed his excitement and joy of the new apartment. The final GPO expressed was Communicate Ideas. I think idea that organization tried to show was when the holidays come around everyone thinks of getting and not giving so why not give to people who need it. Like a home and health care. Also makes us think of solutions to end homeless. Another idea the photos showed was the holidays isn’t the happiest time for everyone but you can make it up for them by help them with basic needs. As I conclude, homeless people would appreciate and would be thankful if this holidays they would be helped and taken in to support them as they try to make a comeback to get a life again. If you were homeless wouldn’t you ask for help? One less homeless means less people in the streets and more growth in the economy. Also wouldn’t you like to that feeling that you help someone get back on their feet? http://framework.latimes.com/2013/11/29/first-apartment/#/0
