1.06 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

Elastomeric sheet-covered, bellow-type roof joint cover
B.
Provide roof [expansion] [control] [seismic] joint covers that, when installed, remain watertight
within movement limitations specified by manufacturer
C.
Joint covers shall permit unrestrained movement of the joint without disengagement of
the cover. Joint covers must conform to the requirements of ASTM E1399.
1. Specify x-axis joint movement. (Joint expansion and contraction; Specify for each building
level: wall, roof)
2. Specify y-axis joint movement. (Joint shear movement; Specify for each building level:
wall, roof)
3. Specify z-axis joint movement. (vertical shear movement; Specify for each building level:
Floor, wall, ceiling)
D.
Fire rated joint cover systems shall have been tested by and shall be listed with an
independent, nationally recognized testing and listing entity. Fire resistant joint covers shall be
rated for [1 hour] [2 hours] [3 hours] [4 hours] [not less than the fire rating of the adjacent
construction]
2.02 MATERIALS

[BRBG-SE] [BRBS-CSE] [BRBS-SE] Series
1. Stainless Steel: ASTM A167, alloy 304, annealed finish, soft, except where harder temper is
required for forming or performance; minimum 0.018 in (o.46 mm) thick
2. Aluminum: ASTM B209, alloy 3003-H14, mill finish, minimum 0.032 in. (o.81 mm) thick
except as otherwise indicated
3. Galvanized Steel: ASTM A924 lock-forming quality, ASTM A525 G60 hot-dipped galvanized
shall be aluminum cover plate with 1/32” (1mm) bronze sheet laminate
Zinc‑coated Steel: ASTM A 924 lock‑forming quality, ASTM A525, G60 class coating hot‑
dipped galvanized; ; minimum 26 gauge (0.56 mm) thick
4. EPDM Membrane: Nonreinforced flexible [Black] [White] EPDM conforming to ASTM
D4637, 60 mil (1.3 mm to 1.6 mm) thick.
5. Neoprene Membrane: Nonreinforced flexible, black neoprene, 60 mil (1.3 mm to 1.6 mm)
thick. (Note: Include where prolonged exposure to process oils or animal fats is an issue.
EPDM has greater UV resistance.)
6. Bellow Supports: Closed cell foam, minimum thickness of 3/8 in. (9.5 mm) for 4 in. (10.1 cm)
bellow widths, ½ in (1.3 cm) for 6 in. and 8 in. (15.2 cm and 20.3 cm) bellow widths, 5/8 in.
(1.6 cm) for 10 in. (25.4 cm) bellow widths and ¾ in. (1.91 cm) for 12 in. (30.4 cm) bellow
widths. (Note: Widths greater than 12 in. available. Contact the factory.)
7. Water Barrier: Flexible EPDM, Class I, ASTM D4637, 45 mils thick (minimum) sheet
8. Fire Barrier: choose the appropriate fire barrier(s) from the list below
Metaflex Classic tested in accordance with ASTM E119/ASTM E814, *
Metaflex 2000 tested in accordance with ASTM E1966 and/or UL 2079, *
Metaflex 5000, MetaMat tested in accordance with UL 2079 and/or ASTM E1966, *
Metaflex 5000 MetaBlock tested in accordance with UL 2079 and/or ASTM E1966, *
*including hose stream test, where applicable, at the full rated period
9. Fasteners, accessories, sealant and other materials required for complete installation in
accordance with the manufacturer’s written installation instructions.
