Call for Abstracts
Deadline: February 20, 2014
Brenau University will hold its annual Research Symposium on Friday, April 10, 2015. The Research Symposium
schedule includes a keynote speaker, concurrent oral presentations, panel presentations, and electronic poster
sessions. The Symposium Steering Committee is accepting abstracts focused on research and scholarship, either
completed or in progress. The deadline for abstract submission is February 20, 2015. Please follow APA format
when completing the abstract.
Abstract submission guidelines







Submit an abstract: Title, Authors(s), and College/School/Department as you would like it to appear in the
published symposium proceedings.
Use the template on the following pages with structured abstract headings, including the following (limit
to 250 words). Choose the format for presentation:
1. Arts & Humanities Presentation or
2. Panel Presentation or
3. Research/Scholarship Presentation
All abstracts will be peer-reviewed. Accepted abstracts will be assigned presentation format and time by
the Research Symposium Steering Committee.
Only 1 submission as primary author per person; multiple submissions as a team member are acceptable.
Student abstract submissions MUST be submitted via a faculty supervisor.
Deadline is February 20, 2015.
Faculty supervisors: Submit your student abstracts to Kimberly Dean at kclark3@brenau.edu. Faculty
submission indicates faculty approval.

ARTS & HUMANITIES ABSTRACT SUBMISSION FORM

Each presenter must individually fill out the sections below. The information you type in below will appear the
same in the Proceedings. Multiple students are designated to present on the panel by the supervising professor
who also moderates the discussion. Maximum length 250 words.
Title of your paper: Give a short and appealing title to your paper
Problem of your paper: State the central issue or problem in the literature/scholarship that you plan to solve in
your paper (2-3 lines):
Argument of your paper: What is the thesis or argument of your paper? State it clearly using phrases like, “I argue
that…This paper suggests…This paper proposes…, etc.” (1-2 lines)
Outline of your paper: Clearly and concisely announce the contents of your paper. It is helpful to use phrases like,
“This paper demonstrates this argument in __ parts; first…second…third…, etc; This paper is divided into __
parts…; This paper analyzes this argument by ….” (1-2 lines)
Sources used in your paper: List the main primary source (s) you consulted for your paper. Also say why the source
(s) is/are important for your research. (1-3 lines)

PANEL PRESENTATION ABSTRACT SUBMISSION FORM

This submission form is designed for those faculty/students who wish to present in a PANEL format. Panel
presentation sections will be scheduled for 30-60 minutes to allow for both the paper’s presentation and extended
discussion. Multiple students are designated to present on the panel by the supervising professor who also
moderates the discussion.
