Hamilton / Blantyre Carer Support Worker – Unfortunately this has not happened due to funding constraints, however the Centre is looking at different ways to achieve this. Mary stressed if there are less than 5 board of directors at a Board Meeting then the meeting can not go ahead. The Lanarkshire Carers Centre is celebrating its 15 year anniversary this October, Mary done an overview of the background and thanked especially Morag (Centre Manager) for having the vision and the drive in difficult times to achieve what the Centre is in. Mary also thanks fellow directors, staff, the treasurer and the volunteer team who provide invaluable admin support and if it wasn’t for them manning the Centre today, all staff would not have had the opportunity to attend. Minutes of Previous Meeting – 18th September 2009 Minutes were agreed as a true record. Arlene MacNeill proposed the minutes and Ann Prinn seconded them. Matters Arising No matters arising. Treasurer Report The draft accounts for 2009-2010 were distributed and Brian gave explanations especially on the Income and Expenditure page and the Balance Sheet. Brian expressed the difficult financial times we are in and the Centre is utilising the resources to the most effectiveness for the Carers. Brian thanked the ongoing support of the funders (South and North Lanarkshire Council and NHS Lanarkshire). Brian stressed the fact that Carers can not allow the Caring Agenda to slip off the political agenda. The Centre always ensures Best Value with all of our services and the centre has made significant financial saving, please see below for examples: Wage Freeze for staff. Terminated lease on conference room within 42 Campbell Street, Hamilton. Changed telephone and stationary suppliers. The centre has again been overwhelmed with the generosity of carers and Hamilton Old Parish Church. The church donated £8,500 and carers support groups and the social and fundraising team have donated £5,168. The £5,168 will go towards Carers Week 2011 and the annual carer’s party. A big thank you to anyone who has donated to the Lanarkshire Carers Centre and for all the hard work of the Social and Fundraising team. The accounts were approved at the Board of Directors meeting on 30th August 2010. The accounts were approved at today’s AGM and A G Greig was approved as auditor. Election of Board Members Lesley read out the existing board members and they all stood down, Apart from the 3 members who have retired all of the other members stood for re-election and were voted in for 2010-2011. Brian Fitzgerald was voted in as treasurer. No one expressed an interest to join the Board. 4 Centre Activities 2009-2010 Morag highlighted that there was a facts and figures factsheet within each pack. If anyone is interested in the full annual report, this can be downloaded from the PRT Lanarkshire Carers Centre’s homepage or speak to the local carer support worker. The Lanarkshire Carers Centre is a carer-led organisation and Morag stressed the importance of carers providing their comments whether good or bad at the Stakeholders and at the Annual Carer Reviews which are held on an annual basis in each locality. All comments are valued and recorded and reported to the funders on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. The Lanarkshire Carers Centre was the host for the launch of The Carers and Young Carers Strategy for Scotland 2010 to 2015. For the first time, carers are being recognised as equal partners in care. The strategy’s headline message states: “Carers are equal partners in the planning and delivery of care and support”. Morag informed everyone there was a quiz paper within the pack given out today and the answers were on the yearly posters around the hall. The yearly posters provided information on the Centre’s work over the years and some trivia on what was happening in the world. Slater Menswear Ltd had generously donated a voucher for a man’s suit as part of the 15 year celebrations. Every male carer on the database was put in for a draw. Mary Hendry pulled out David Major from Carluke as the recipient of the prize. Thank You Mary thanked everyone again for their attendance and asked for any comments re; the venue and brunch. One carer from a minority background voiced there concerns and they didn’t feel the venue was appropriate since it was licensed and the only vegetarian option was egg. 5
