Our Lady of the Rosary School Newsletter December 11, 2013 Christ Be Our Light Gospel Value: Service "For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness." Psalm 18:28 Dear OLR Families, Last Friday, our students celebrated the feast day of one of the most popular saints in the world, Saint Nicholas. He is most famous as the patron saint of children and he was known for his kindness and generosity. Long ago, children would leave their shoes on the windowsill or outside their bedroom door in anticipation of St. Nicholas rewarding them for their good behavior all year. St. Nicholas would surprise all good little boys and girls by filling their shoes with goodies, such as nuts, fruits, and sweets. On Friday, all of our students and teachers left their shoes outside the classrooms in anticipation of St. Nicholas rewarding their good behavior all year long. They were quite surprised when St. Nicholas left delicious candy canes for all! As we wait for the coming of baby Jesus, we reflect on Father José’s message in his homily on Sunday. Father José reminded us that Advent is really a time of joy, hope, and waiting. It is also a time when we reflect on our own relationship with God. Advent is the perfect time to ask ourselves how we are getting ready for the baby Jesus and how we can strengthen our relationship with our Lord. On December 12, OLR will celebrate the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe. On this special day we celebrate and honor Our Lady’s shining presence as a caregiver and mother to us all. Her appearance at the Hill of Tepayac, near Mexico City, is a reminder to us that God will remember His mercy for all people. Our students are working very hard each day to prepare for our upcoming Christmas program. The theme for this year’s program is He Will Bring Us Goodness and Light. Plan on being entertained by our very own OLR elves on Dec. 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. The Christmas program features all of our students and a variety of student soloists. All of our students are looking forward to entertaining you as we prepare for the coming of our Lord. Students are asked to arrive promptly at 6:45 p.m. dressed in their “Christmas best” (boys – nice pants (no jeans) and button-down shirt, girls- skirts or dresses).
