KMU Trucking and Excavating
Scholarship
JVS alumni Kevin and Keith Urig started KMU Trucking & Excavating working evenings and weekends in
1990. Working hard to make their dreams come a reality they incorporated the business in 1998. The
company has grown steadily over the years and last year had over 17 million in sales. During the peak
season KMU employed over 100 people. Kevin and Keith's brother Kenny, also JVS alumni, helps to
maintain over one hundred pieces of equipment. We decided to start this scholarship to hopefully
inspire and help someone else pursue their dream.
Following are the policies and procedures for the scholarship:
1. A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded annually to one graduate of the following LC JVS programs.
(Collision Repair, Auto Technologies, Commercial Truck, Industrial Equipment Mechanics, Masonry,
Plumbing, Carpentry, Industrial Electricity, Welding , Precision Machine Trades or Landscape –Greenhouse
Management ) who is continuing his/her education in a related field at an accredited college, technical
or trade school.
2. This is a one-year, nonrenewable scholarship.
3. Applicants with a real desire to advance themselves in the field will be selected based upon both
academics and financial need.
4. Scholarship money will be paid by the KMU Trucking and Excavating directly to the college, technical or
trade school upon proof of the recipient’s enrollment. The funds may be used for tuition, fees, books,
tools, housing and supplies.
5. If the student does not enroll within one year of graduation from the LCJVS, the scholarship will be forfeited.
6. Each applicant must submit the following in a single packet to Ms. West in the Student Services Office no
later than the first JVS school day in the month of April.
a. Scholarship Application Form
b. Signed permission to obtain official records request.
c. Letter of acceptance from the post-secondary institution.
d. Each applicant will also request two letters of recommendation. At least one of the letters MUST
be from his/her LCJVS vocational instructor. The letters of recommendation can be attached to
you application packet.
7. The application packets will then be provided to the LCJVS Scholarship committee. They will make the
selection of the scholarship recipient with final approval by KMU. They will evaluate the applicants on the
following criterion:
a. Application form
b. Transcript and acceptance letter
c. Letters of recommendation
8. The KMU will notify the LCJVS of their approval prior to the JVS’ annual Senior Recognition Ceremony. A
representative of KMU will participate in presenting the scholarship at the JVS annual senior recognition
ceremony.
9. The Administrator of KMU scholarship will coordinate the scholarship process with the representative of
the LCJVS and the Board of Directors of the KMU Foundation.

I hereby give my consent to release my high school transcripts to the Board of Directors of the
KMU Trucking and Excavating. I also understand that all of the letters of recommendation sent
to that committee on my behalf, will be confidential and I waive my right to read those letters.
I acknowledge that all materials submitted in this application become the property of KMU
Trucking and Excavating. and will not be returned to me.
I understand that my failure to return this signed and dated form by its due date will cause me
to forfeit any further consideration for the KMU Trucking and Excavating Scholarship.
