PEER MINISTRY AT THE WESLEY FOUNDATION
STUDENT APPLICATION
Peer ministers are students who provide leadership and support to the different ministries of the Wesley
Foundation. Please prayerfully consider serving God through this ministry, while intentionally growing in your own
faith and developing your spiritual gifts. All peer ministers will be mentored by Paige. To be consider as a peer
minister for the 2013-2014 school year, please return this application by April 1. Interviews with Paige will be held
April 4 and 5 (or as can be scheduled).
The mission of the Wesley Foundation is EIU is to connect students to the love of God known through the life of
Jesus Christ. We strive to offer a spiritual home, provide opportunities for personal growth and spiritual
formation, serve Christ by serving others, work for peace with justice, develop Christian leaders and provide
outreach through missions.
The vision for the Wesley Foundation for the 2013-2014 school year is to reach 65 total students regularly,
averaging 45 in worship, while the leadership team intentionally develops its spiritual gifts. This will take a lot of
work, and we are looking for leaders who are excited about inviting and leading new people in the ministry.
The purpose of peer ministry at the Wesley Foundation is:
 To provide student leadership in an “area of ministry” within the Wesley Foundation
 To assist students with leadership potential and to develop leadership skills
 To nurture the development of faith personally and for our community
 To equip students to be better able to articulate their faith
Necessary qualifications:
 A call to serve this campus ministry as a servant leader
 A willingness to commit to the worship, activities, and programs of this ministry
 A desire to join the student leadership team, with participation in regular meetings
The Peer Ministry Expectations










Agree with the mission and vision of the ministry.
Identify and lead one project/small group/ministry area.
Attend an introduction and planning session on Friday, April 19 from 7-10pm.
Have two (2) office hours/week at the Foundation to either to be available to others in the ministry or to
fulfill “WHATEVER IT TAKES” responsibilities for your area of ministry.
Attend a weekly one-hour leadership meeting (time be to determined, but it won’t be a weekend or on a
Thursday night).
Meet with the campus minister on a monthly basis.
Attend worship weekly, arriving early for greeting and set up and staying after to meet visitors and assist
with break-down.
Actively participate in the ministry (attend at least one mission and one social activity this semester).
Be intentional about welcoming newcomers and those yet to be connected to the ministry.
Actively attend to your own spiritual growth through prayer, bible study, and other means.
As the Campus Minister, I pledge to:
 prepare for peer ministry meetings
 provide a variety of growth, leadership, and learning experiences
 meet regularly with peer ministers
 provide resources and guidance
 bring awareness of theology, Bible, meditation, spiritual discipline to bear on ministry areas
 provide supervision and individual attention
Peer Minister Job Descriptions: These are suggested areas of ministry responsibility. Don’t feel you have to pick
one. If you have a ministry interest that is not listed, feel free to list it in the appropriate area of the application.
Prayer Team Leader: attend to the needs of the prayer chapel, potentially lead a prayer group, help to organize
those called to pray during worship and schedule a person to lead prayer weekly.
Sunday Supper Team Leader: Leader of a team to set up and clean up for Sunday supper. Also will be in contact
with churches to schedule serving dates and will send follow-up thank you note. Since Paige will not be at every
Sunday supper due to visitation, this will be a particular area of need.
Worship Design Team Leader: Leader of a team that will meet with Paige to determine weekly worship space
needs. Will organize volunteers to help set up weekly worship space.
Small Group Leaders: Lead a small group for the semester.
PR/Marketing Team Leader: Leader of a team that will help keep our community and the campus appraised of
Foundation activities through the website, email newsletter, fliers, postcards, etc.
Community Building Team Leader: Leader of a team that organizes fun, social events for our community to get to
know one another in a different setting
Welcoming Team Leader: Leader of a team that focuses on outreach to new people and follows up with visitors
and first time guests.
