Do you know what causes Sinusitis?
Antibiotics and over the counter decongestants are widely used to treat chronic sinusitis but in most
cases are not effective because they target bacteria, not fungi. Below is a study by the Mayo Clinic that
implicates the cause of chronic sinusitis as an immune system response to fungus. This study tests the
effectiveness of saline spray versus natural remedies. On the back you will find anti-fungal Young Living

Study Implicates Fungus as Cause of Chronic Sinusitis
Mayo Clinic, January 02, 2008
Mayo Clinic researchers say they have found the cause of
most chronic sinus infections-- an immune system
response to fungus. They say this discovery opens the
door to the first effective treatment for this problem, the
most common chronic disease in the United States. An
estimated 37 million people in the U.S. suffer from chronic
sinusitis, an inflammation of the membranes of the nose
and sinus cavity. Its incidence has been increasing
steadily over the last decade. Common symptoms are
runny nose, nasal congestion, loss of smell and
headaches. Frequently, the chronic inflammation leads to
polyps, small growths in the nasal passages that hinder
breathing. Fungus allergy was thought to be involved in
less than 10 percent of cases. The new studies indicate that, in fact, fungus is likely the cause of nearly
all of these problems. And it is not an allergic reaction, but an immune reaction. The disease process in
sinus patients, in sensitive individuals, the body's immune system sends eosinophils* to attack fungi and
the eosinophils* irritate the membranes in the nose. As long as fungi remain, so will the irritation. The
over-the-counter drugs may offer some relief of symptoms, but they have no effect on the inflammation.
Thousands of kinds of single-cell fungi (molds and yeasts) are found everywhere in the world. Fungal
spores (the reproductive part of the organism) become airborne like pollen. Some people develop
allergies to fungi. The new evidence from the Mayo study suggests that many people also develop a
different kind of immune system response....Source Mayo Clinic 01/02/2008
Sinus problems are treated well with safe, inexpensive treatment: U of M Health System study, November
19, 2007.
Nasal irrigations with saline are more effective than saline spray for short-term relief of chronic
nasal symptoms.
Ann Arbor, MI-- An inexpensive, safe and easy treatment in an effective method for treating chronic nasal
and sinus symptoms--more effective, in fact, than commonly used saline sprays, according to a new study
from University of Michigan Health System researchers.
The study is the first of its kind to show greater efficacy of saline irrigation treatments versus saline spray
for providing short term relief of chronic nasal symptoms, the authors report. Participants in the study who
were treated with irrigation experienced a much greater benefit than those who were treated with saline
spray, in terms of both the severity and frequency of their symptoms.
"The irrigation group achieved a clinically significant improvement in quality of life in terms of the severity
of their symptoms, whereas the spray group did not," says lead author Melissa A. Pynnonen, M,D.,
"Strikingly, they also experienced 50 percent lower odds of frequent nasal symptoms compared with the
spray group."
The findings, which appear in the new issue of the Archives of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery,
could be significant for the multitudes of people who suffer from chronic nasal and sinus conditions. In the
United States, 36 million people are affected by chronic rhino sinusitis each year, and millions more are
affected by other types of allergic and non-allergic rhinitis.
*Eosinophils- White blood cells that are one of the immune system components responsible for
combating multicellular parasites and certain infections.

What are Fungi? Fungi and yeast feed on decomposing or dead tissues and exist inside our stomachs,
on our skin, out on our lawn, and just about everywhere. When kept under control, the yeast and fungi
populating our bodies are harmless and digest what our bodies cannot or do not use. When we feed the
naturally occurring fungi in our bodies too many simple sugars, the fungal populations can grow out of
control. This condition is known as candidiasis and is marked by fungi invading the blood, gastrointestinal
tract, and tissues. Fungal cultures such as Candida excrete large amounts of poisons called mycotoxins
as part of their life cycles. These poisons in the blood flow through the liver and hopefully are digested
and eliminated from the body. If there is too much poison creating a toxic overload, the body eventually
weakens. These toxins can wreak enormous damage on the tissues and organs and can be an
aggravating factor in many degenerative diseases such as cancer, arteriosclerosis, and diabetes.
What can I do to control the amount of Fungi in my body? Reducing or eliminating simple sugars
from the diet is essential to combating all fungal infections. Antibiotics should also be avoided, and
alcohol is deadly. Insufficient intake of minerals and trace minerals like magnesium, potassium, and zinc
may also stimulate Candida and fungal overgrowth in the body.
