Course Description
The course will examine current concepts in peripheral nerve surgery and rehabilitation. Participants will receive an overview of upper
extremity and nerve anatomy. Current innovations in nerve surgery and tendon transfers will be explored. Participants will gain further
understanding of conservative and post-surgical treatment for nerve injuries. The scratch collapse test will be presented by lecture,
demonstration and hands on lab experience.
Course Objectives
1. Provide an understanding of basic peripheral nerve anatomy and upper extremity anatomy.
2. Explore new innovations in nerve surgery and tendon transfers.
3. Gain practical knowledge of conservative and post-surgical treatment for nerve injuries.
4. Discuss and perform the scratch collapse test.
Speakers
Lorna Canavan Kahn, PT, CHT. Lorna received her Bachelor’s of Physical Therapy from Washington University in St. Louis in 1984. She
is currently employed by Milliken Hand Rehabilitation Center (The Rehabilitation Institute of St Louis) and is the clinical liaison to the
Peripheral Nerve Center at Washington University. She has lectured both locally and nationally on the subject of peripheral nerve and she
is also adjunct faculty at Washington University’s Program in Physical Therapy.
Amy Marcelle Moore, MD- Dr. Moore received her medical degree from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in
2004. Her post-doctoral work at Washington University includes a surgery residency, plastic and reconstructive surgery peripheral nerve
research fellowship, and plastic and reconstructive surgery residency. Following her post-doctoral work, Dr. Moore completed a one year
orthopedic hand fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Moore is the Assistant Professor of Surgery, Division of Plastic
and Reconstructive Surgery, Department of Surgery, at Washington University School of Medicine.
