If you’re looking for fun in the snow, the premier place to go has to be – MT
HOTHAM! Mt Hotham is the highest ski village in Australia, with the highest
natural snow falls in Victoria, a huge range of levels in ski terrain, and a high tech
snow making and grooming system that guarantees reliable ski conditions. Mt
Hotham also allows you to live on the mountain and experience the true alpine
village atmosphere.
The ski terrain ranges from a good choice of beginner and intermediate runs, to
death defying double black runs designed to elevate the pulse rate.
In 2016, St James’ are offering students a snow ski trip to Mt Hotham, Victoria
commencing Thursday 7 July (starting the first week of the school holidays and
running through the second week).
Ski Tours offer excellent value compared to skiing as individuals and a fabulous
opportunity to have fun in the snow. Mt Hotham should provide some new
challenges for the regulars on the ski tour and will also provide an excellent
platform for first time skiers to learn the basics.
ACCOMMODATION - THE ARLBERG HOTEL
The Arlberg Hotel offers some of the best value accommodation on the mountain.
Situated near the Summit and Village Chair Lift, beginners can step out the front
door and begin mastering their first snow plough turns right from the first minute.
Beginner’s slopes are situated nearby. Alternatively, the more competent skiers
and snow boarders can head across to the other side of the mountain for some
black runs.
The Arlberg Hotel is a self-contained, “on snow resort” with en-suite bathrooms,
mini kitchens and TV’s in all apartments. Its location makes it very handy to both
ski lifts and the main village area.
ABOUT THE SKIING
Mt Hotham offers some of the best natural snow conditions in Australia and is
known as the powder capital. It backs this up with excellent snow making
machines that now cover a large portion of the mountain.
Families will be able to send their son/daughter to ski school from 9.00 am 3.00pm each day.
The requirements for attending ski school are that children must be 3 years
old and be toilet trained. At ski school, lunch and snacks will be provided.
This will allow mums and dads and older siblings to attend daily ski lessons.
These lessons will be on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
mornings for about 2 hours. The final two days will be free skiing for the day for
adults and older siblings.

Winter clothing can be easily arranged amongst family and friends and need not
be expensive. Ski suits may be hired from Mt Hotham at a cost of approximately
$67 for pants and a jacket. Alternatively ski suits can be hired in Perth from
Mainpeak in Cottesloe for approximately $60. This will be discussed at a Parent
Information Evening early in 2016. YOU CAN OFTEN PURCHASE SKI GEAR
VERY CHEAP ON LINE IF YOU DO SO EARLY ENOUGH.
This year, we will be offering students seven full days skiing. This can be
rather demanding, so students need to ensure they do some fitness work
before the trip.

NOTE: Any students or adult who want to fly to Melbourne earlier to visit
friends or relatives may do so. Please arrange your own airfares early,
especially the return flight, to coincide with the rest of the group.
If your child must stay beyond the school group departure then you must
arrange your own supervision after the group leaves Melbourne. Please see
Mr Pree if you have any concerns.
Should parents choose to book flights using frequent flyer points, this
should be done very early as these types of seats are very limited.

The price is based on sharing 50 seat buses with another group and may
increase marginally if students withdraw. For this reason late refunds are
not given unless the person who withdraws can find another student/family
to fill their place. If a student suffers a legitimate injury prior to departure,
then the travel insurance policy may be activated.
WHAT TO DO
Should your family be interested, we require a deposit of
$1000 per person by Friday, 30 October 2015. All attached
forms MUST be submitted together with your payment. Due to the popularity of
this trip, the number of places is strictly limited.
Receipts will be issued for cash transactions.

Throughout the trip, school rules will apply with regards to St James’ students.
Any student who has lost good standing at School or has a history of poor
behaviour WILL NOT be taken.
Students must be reasonably fit as skiing is quite physically demanding.
These trips are very popular and are open to any students, staff or families who
are affiliated with St James’.

I understand that the following rules apply specifically to the St James’ Mt Hotham Ski Trip 2016.
1.
Any alcohol consumption or illicit drug use by a student at any point on the trip will result in immediate removal from the trip
entirely at the parent’s expense. This will include bus fares for both students and a Staff member from Mt Hotham back to
Melbourne, overnight accommodation in Melbourne if required, airport transfers, and any other expenses required in order to
return the staff member back to the mountain. This will also include any additional costs associated with changing flights.
